The topics discussed in the workshop were about:

-Family Law – Married Persons Equality Act of 1996, Customary Marriages

-Family Law – Law of succession (Inheritance)

-Definitions, Establishment of traditional authorities, designation, election, appointment and recognition of traditional leaders

These sessions were presented by Mr. Absai Kashululu (National Trainer Coordinator of Women’s Action for Development, Mr. Verinao Kamahene (Magistrate at the Windhoek Magistrate Court) and the trainers, which were trained by KAS in an earlier workshop in Eenhana Ms. Aily Shikongo, Ms. Hendrina Anghuwo, Ms. Vilma Hangala, Mr. Peingondjabi H. Sheya, Ms. Klaudia W. Nangobe.

The Workshop was well attended and the participants were very interested, which was shown in many questions and discussions about the topics. The group discussions gave many impressions about the current situation of communal land in the villages and showed the need of training of the people about their rights. The participants confirmed that the communal land is almost in complete current ownership of men and reported about the issues which make it difficult for women to get communal land.

Moreover Stefanie Braun (Project Manager) and Absai Kashululu presented the project at the Regional Council meetings in Omuthiya and Outapi.

The event was a great success and KAS thanks the participants for their positive feedback, WAD for their support and the trainers for their engagement.
