Workshop Report

As a follow-up initiative to the Federal Foreign Office funded conference "Shaping the future of Afghanistan and Pakistan" the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation's Kabul and Islamabad offices in autumn 2013 launched a comprehensive bilateral project.


The Department of Peace Studies offers facilitation to Research, Counseling and Education of Peace Building, Civil Conflict Resolution and Human Development.

Voting and campaigning for a better future

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Kabul office will be publishing a hand-book for the Afghan Parliamentary elections in 2010, to be used as a reference guide by the potential candidates. For this reason, the KAS invited representatives of the Afghan civil society, media, political parties and members of the Afghan Parliament to the three workshops on the 20th, 21st and 22nd of April 2009, for consultations and to ask for the opinions and recommendations of the invited guests for the elections hand-book.

Counselling Workshops for Selecting the Research Topics at NCPR in 2009

The NCPR had held several workshops for selecting its Research Topics in 2009. Each department of NCPR had organized and prepared 15very vital topics to be evaluated by the participants and they had to vote for the most important ones. More than 71 participants, Experts of Economics, Social Sciences and Law & Political Sciences from Governmental and Non-Governmental Organizations, Professors of Kabul University and professionals from the Academy of Sciences of Afghanistan attended.

Security and Stability in Central Asia

Initiatives during the German EU Presidency

The Federal Foreign Office and the George C. Marshall Center hold a three-day conference on "Security and Stability in Central Asia – Initiatives during Germany's EU Council Presidency". The conference is designed to enable high-level government representatives and parliamentarians, mainly from members of NATO's Partnership for Peace initiative, to exchange views and discuss prospects for cooperation with the Central Asian states.

The German Afghan Research Forum or “GARF” was conceived in August 2006 as a major initiative to introduce research methodology to the three Faculties of Kabul University represented at the National Centre for Policy Research: Law & Political Science, Economics, and Social Science.


Parties Recommend Changes of the Electoral Law

The current electoral system based on the Single Non-Transferable Vote should not be used again during the next parliamentary election 2010 in Afghanistan. That was the consensus reached between participants of a workshop organised by the Kabul office of Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS) on 20 and 21 September 2006 who represented different political parties and members of the Wolesi Jirga both independent and affiliated with parties.
