Delegation trifft sich zur Trilateral Summer School in Berlin
Zum dritten Mal trafen sich knapp 40 Vertreter aus Pakistan, Afghanistan und Deutschland zur Trilateral Summer School in Berlin. Am 9. September empfing Frank Priess, stellvertretender Leiter der Hauptabteilung Europäische und Internationale Zusammenarbeit, die Delegierten zu einem Eröffnungsdinner. Dabei unterstrich er das Engagement der Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in dieser Region: „Mit Sorge verfolge ich die Nachrichten aus Afghanistan und Pakistan, daher müssen wir zu einer Verbesserung der Situation im Krisengebiet der AfPak-Region beitragen.“

Deutschlands Verantwortung am Hindukusch

Parlamentswahlen als Wendepunkt in Afghanistan?
Zum zweiten Mal seit dem Sturz des Taliban-Regimes Ende 2001 waren die Afghanen Mitte September 2010 dazu aufgerufen, ein Parlament zu wählen. Auf die 249 Sitze im Unterhaus (Wolesi Dschirga) bewarben sich 2.556 Kandidaten. Parteien standen nicht zur Wahl. Ein offizielles Endergebnis durch die unabhängige Wahlkommission wird nicht vor Ende Oktober erwartet, da zunächst die Wahlbeschwerdekommission über 3.000 Wahlbetrugsvorwürfen nachgehen muss. Die Wahlen waren überschattet von Gewalt und Anschlägen. Insgesamt kamen laut der afghanischen Regierung wohl bis zu 46 Menschen ums Leben.

Voting and campaigning for a better future

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Kabul office will be publishing a hand-book for the Afghan Parliamentary elections in 2010, to be used as a reference guide by the potential candidates. For this reason, the KAS invited representatives of the Afghan civil society, media, political parties and members of the Afghan Parliament to the three workshops on the 20th, 21st and 22nd of April 2009, for consultations and to ask for the opinions and recommendations of the invited guests for the elections hand-book.

Counselling Workshops for Selecting the Research Topics at NCPR in 2009
The NCPR had held several workshops for selecting its Research Topics in 2009. Each department of NCPR had organized and prepared 15very vital topics to be evaluated by the participants and they had to vote for the most important ones. More than 71 participants, Experts of Economics, Social Sciences and Law & Political Sciences from Governmental and Non-Governmental Organizations, Professors of Kabul University and professionals from the Academy of Sciences of Afghanistan attended.
