Mexikos Regierung macht wichtige Errungenschaften in der Energiepolitik rückgängig

Im Zuge der Coronapandemie kam es zum schwersten Ölpreisschock der vergangenen Jahrzehnte – besonders besorgniserregend für Mexiko, denn nach einer Energiereform 2013 und ersten vielversprechenden Schritten zur Öffnung und Erneuerung des Sektors, lenkt die aktuelle Regierung alle Investitionen zurück zum Öl. Dies soll Mexiko zu den Zeiten der Energie-Autarkie und Ölexporte zurückführen, doch angesichts der aktuellen Konjunkturlage sollte die Ausschöpfung der großen Potenziale im Bereich erneuerbare Energien gefördert, nicht gestoppt werden.

The End of the Oslo Peace Process?

In the midst of the corona pandemic, the Palestinian leadership led by President Mahmoud Abbas announces the end of all cooperation with Israel. The decision immediately follows the swearing-in of the new Israeli government, whose coalition agreement permits unilateral annexations of the Jordan Valley and settlements in the West Bank. More than 25 years after the Oslo negotiations, the creeping disintegration of the peace process has reached its lowest point. A new peace initiative is needed.

After a consistent, transparent and unagitated course in the fight against the coronavirus, the government of President Laurentino "Nico" Cortizo is facing a rapid loss of confidence due to the irresponsible behaviour of members of the government. Until a few days ago, the severe restrictions on the freedom of movement and action that accompanied the drastic measures to combat the pandemic were supported by the vast majority of the Panamanian population without complaint. The government gambled away this broad consensus through questionable procurement projects bordering on audacity, which almost force the presumption of attempted corruption. At the centre of the accusations is José Gabriel "Gaby" Carrizo, Panama's vice president and head of the presidential ministry.
