Egypt’s Journalists under Pressure

Egypt’s press is traditionally a relatively free and confident one. Lately, however, the Egyptian Government puts more and more pressure on the media. Detention, censorship and prohibitions are increasing. Subtle methods are used to exert growing influence on journalists, bloggers, publishers and TV makers and very often the protection of values, religion and national interest serve as a pretext. This country report analyses the latest development in the field of freedom of press. (in German)
