Until noon of the 28th September no official statements of members of the Egyptian Government on the election results were released. Observers however point to the telephone call President Mubarak gave Chancellor Merkel on the election eve (around 10 pm) to congratulate her to the election result. This rapid and personal congratulation is seen as a clear expression of personal appreciation. According to partners and friends of the foundation the positive appraisal is being shared by the majority of the Egyptian ruling elite. (in German)
