PERISCOPE

Occasional Analysis Paper Series

In the Matter of State v Liberty

Reflections on the 2020 Coronavirus Pandemic

'Periscope' is the Occasional Analysis Paper series of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung’s (Foundation) Regional Programme Australia and the Pacific. Just like the real-world sighting instrument, Periscope is meant as a lens to broaden our insights - taking in views from different angles. This way, it seeks to bring together perspectives from Germany, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific region to augment our understanding of contemporary issues and help address the pressing problems of our time. Our Analysis Papers are substantive publications in the form of single-author (and co-authored) contributions or edited volumes with multiple authors. Their thematic focus ranges from in-depth analysis of a single topic to examining an issue or broader phenomenon from different angles.

PERISCOPE Vol. 4 2020: Energy Matters in Australia, Germany, New Zealand and the South Pacific

A Collaborative Approach

This Periscope edition is published following the 2nd KAS-EUCERS Energy Policy Dialogue “Energy Strategies: Germany, New Zealand & Australia - A Comparative Perspective” held in October 2019. While the publication draws on the topics of the Dialogue (renewable energy & energy efficiency; balancing energy security, affordability & environmental sustainability; current energy policy challenges), it is not restricted to them, and includes a Pacific voice as well.

PERISCOPE Vol. 3 2020: The Convergence Puzzle: Australia, Germany and Emerging Cybersecurity Trends

'Periscope' is the Occasional Analysis Paper series of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation's Regional Programme Australia and the Pacific. This latest edition, a collection of contributions from Australia and Germany, is concerned with emerging trends, challenges and patterns in cybersecurity relevant for both countries.

Cyber Security in a Contested Age – Geopolitical Challenges and Opportunities for Australia and Germany

by Katja Theodorakis and Dr. Clint Arizmendi

Our latest analysis paper, the second to be published in the ‘Periscope’ series, deals with the topic of cyber security – the challenges associated with it as well as the opportunities afforded by it. Just like the real-world sighting instrument, ‘Periscope’ is meant to broaden our views, taking in perspectives from different angles. For this end, it brings together insights from Europe/Germany and the Australia/Pacific region in order to augment our understanding of contemporary geopolitical and security issues.
