The Regional Programme  Australia and the Pacific of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung will host a special event with the Hon Dan Tehan MP, Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment on Tuesday, 15 June 2021.

The topic is Geoconomics and Sovereignty in the Indo-Pacific, and the Minister will give a keynote speech, followed by a moderated discussion.

Over recent years, it has become clear that economics and trade are a central area for strategic pursuits. Especially for nations like Australia this means a recognition that economic and security concerns are interlinked and an integrated approach to economic, technical and security policy matters is needed. In light of German and European commitment (at the EU as well as individual member state–level) to increase engagement in the Indo-Pacific, a number of key areas of convergence arise between Australian and German/European interests. This requires addressing important questions related to geoconomics and sovereignty.
