The EU - Mercosur Agreement - a perspective

Serie Brazil - Europe No 10

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung publishes the 10th volume of the series Relations between Brazil and Europe. This publication deals with the new agreement between Mercosur and the European Union. It contains a series of analyses looking at the current state of trade relations between the EU and Mercosur, starting with reflections on the impact of the socio-political context on both sides of the Atlantic. It also analyses the trade relations between the blocs in order to make the trade agenda effective, including aspects of the agreement, the related environmental perspective and a brief history of trade exchanges. We take this opportunity to already invite to participate in the online debate on the publication. The event will take place on 27 August 2020 at 18.00 on the Zoom platform with transmission on YouTube. The second issue of the series Cadernos Adenauer 2020 focuses on the local elections in Brazil and the challenges they face this year. This publication consists of nine chapters that discuss some of the most important issues on the Brazilian political agenda related to the election year we are in. Topics such as the political situation at the municipal level, the principle of subsidiarity, changes in electoral legislation, campaign financing, the end of proportional coalitions, the importance of municipal elections in the political scenario in general, political renewal movements and possible scenarios for 2020 and the implications for 2022 are the topics covered in this issue.
