Zunächst als Land des Fußballs, der Gastfreundschaft und des Improvisationstalents gefeiert, wurde es hinsichtlich der (Fehl)Investitionen im Zuge der WM nicht nur von der ausländischen Presse, sondern in zunehmendem Maße auch von der eigenen Bevölkerung scharf kritisiert. Man sprach von Kostenexplosion, Zwangsumsiedlungen und Korruptionsvorwürfen - nach dem erhofften Vermächtnis in der Verbesserung der öffentlichen Dienstleistung kann lange gesucht werden.

On April 24th, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in cooperation with Catholic University of Pernambuco (UNICAP) hosted the event “Democracia Virtual” in Recife, in order to discuss changes within the flow of information’s which are linked to the internet and social networks. These are transforming many social dynamics within our globalized world, affecting the day-to-day life of individuals in almost every aspect, by raising political consciousness, which also enhances the political organization of societal groups against the governments.

From November 2011 to March 2014, Daniel Edler Duarte was the first Konrad Adenauer Fellow in European Studies at the FGV International Relations Center, hosted at CPDOC. Throughout this period, in addition to deepening the work in his field of studies – immigration and security in the European Union -, he has joined different study groups in the Center and participated in diverse academic activities promoted by CPDOC/FGV and by KAS.
