EU-Lieferkettengesetz - Chance oder Risiko für europäische Unternehmen?
KAS-BDI Working Group Trade Lunch

What’s new, NATO? The consequences of the Strategic Concept for Europe’s future security environment
Online Event
On June 28th to June 30th, at the summit in Madrid, NATO did present its long-awaited Strategic Concept for 2030. The concept focuses mainly on new threats, new working areas of NATO and, unlike in previous decades, NATO announced to invest more in private research and science to drive innovation in the military field. Therefore, by 2030, NATO will inevitably invest not insignificant amounts in areas that were not previously within its remit: e.g. becoming the first military alliance to actively fight climate change. In total those investments could sum up to an additional 20 billion EUR.

“From Neutral Pillar to Strategic Partner. Towards a Comprehensive EU-North Africa Policy in the Age of a Rising China”
Relations between the European Union and North Africa are at a turning point in the age of a rising China. Even before the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine and the resulting breakdown in trade relations between the EU and Russia, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen had announced the need to strengthen cooperation between the EU and Africa, and North Africa in particular. But not only the EU is strongly committed to deepen cooperation with Africa. China's relations with Africa and North Africa are strengthening. These are based primarily on Beijing's financial commitment and “investment appetite” in Africa, mainly North Africa.

Quo vadis, Europa?

Rethinking Global Trade – Where is it heading?
Virtual Debate of the KAS-BDI Working Group Trade
In the beginning of the year, many economists were cautiously optimistic towards global trade growth. But the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the ensuing sanctions have put global supply chains under increased strain, just as they were beginning to recover from the effects of the global pandemic. The resulting current rise in inflation, initially considered to be temporary by many Central Banks, is now expected to be a more long-term phenomenon due to the new geopolitical reality.

The Dutch government between ambitious domestic plans and challenging developments abroad
Online Event
Almost exactly 100 days ago, the new government of the Netherlands was sworn in and concluded the longest negotiation period in the history of the country. This is all the more astonishing, since the incumbent four party coalition reaching from conservative liberal Volkspartij voor Vrijheid en Democratie (VVD) over social liberal Democraten 66 (D66) and Christen-Democratisch Appèl (CDA) to the Calvinist ChristenUnie (CU) has already led the country during the last legislative term. Nevertheless, the old and new government set out an ambitious plan to make the Netherlands climate-neutral, to ensure affordable housing in all parts of the country and to play a constructive role on the European stage, where the country has often expressed outspoken views, which regularly weren’t shared by the Southern EU member states.
