Nach Ausbruch des gewaltsamen Konflikts in den anglophonen Provinzen Kameruns und den Rücktritten vieler Langzeitherrscher in Afrika standen die diesjährigen Präsident-schaftswahlen in Kamerun unter besonderer Beobachtung und Erwartungshaltung. Das Ergebnis: Alles bleibt (zunächst) beim Alten – Paul Biya geht nach 36 Jahren im Amt auch in seine siebte Amtszeit. Die Mitbewerber blieben chancenlos. Neu ist lediglich, dass ganze Bevölkerungsschichten der Wahl fern blieben. Die Opposition scheiterte mit Beschwerden gegen die Wahl. Der Status Kameruns als „Stabilitätsanker“ Zentralafrikas gerät ins Wanken.

South Africa is fossil fuel dependent with approximately 90 percent of its energy derived from coal. Per capita, it is in the top 15 carbon emitters in the world. South Africa’s climate change response policy frameworks include a commitment to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions to below business-as-usual by 34 percent by 2020, and 42 percent by 2025. In order to achieve these commitments, additional financial investments – from both public and private sources – are required.
