The Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Yaounde hosted a meeting with traditional leaders of Cameroon on Tuesday 6 June 2017. This special event was unique, in the sense that it brought together the royal community and representatives from all regions of the country.

This meeting was held in partnership with GIZ, initially aiming at collecting impressions of the delegation of traditional leaders that had previously been invited to Germany in April 2017. The meeting also forged new links with other traditional leaders with the intention to reinforce the Foundation's desire to increase the collaboration with the traditional authorities in Cameroon, especially in the context of climate change and sustainable development.

Emphasizing the traditional chief’s role on the issue of climate change was part of the discussion. Also the role of the German Development cooperation community was briefly discussed in the aforementioned context.

The Resident Director of the Foundation Prof Oliver Ruppel, with a welcome statement, officially opened the session, followed by the representative of the GIZ in Cameroon, Dr Petra Wagner. Both expressed their appreciation towards the kings for their enthusiasm and active participation at this event.

The workshop itself was an opportunity to reflect impressions of the trip to Germany and, above all, to determine new ways of potential and further cooperation. The chiefs expressed at this occasion their interest in the work of the Foundation and German Development cooperation in Cameroun as whole.
