Roadmap for Sustainable Biofuels and Bioenergy in southern Africa

Regulatory Frameworks for Improved Development Potential

On Wednesday, 3rd of May 2017 at 16:30 the Regional Program for Climate Policy and Energy Security of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung together with the DROP Program at Stellenbosch University and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung National Office of South Africa contacted a Book Launch on sustainable Biofuels.

On Wednesday, 3rd of May 2017 at 16:30 the Regional Program for Climate Policy and Energy Security of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung together with the DROP Program at Stellenbosch University and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung National Office of South Africa contacted a Book Launch on sustainable Biofuels.

The Book Launch was held at the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Studies in Stellenbosch. It was well attended by national and some international experts and was officially opened by Prof Dr Eugene Cloete, the Vice Rector Research and Innovation, of Stellenbosch University.

After the opening Remarks by the organizers of Konrad Adenauer Foundation namely Prof Dr Oliver Ruppel and Mr. Henning Suhr, the Book was presented by the individual authors. The interdisciplinary event also opened opportunities for further investigation of the topic.

It was for instance motivated to have a few follow up workshops on biofuels regulation and the biofuels concept later in 2017 or early 2018 and not only in South Africa but also in other African countries such as Zimbabwe and Cameroon.

At the Book Launch, the book was critically discussed by Dr Bothwell Batidzirai, a Research Officer at the University of Cape Town, Energy Research Center. Dr Bothwell commended the editors and authors of the Book. He also made specific recommendations for further scientific investigation under different disciplines. He highlighted the complexity of Biofuels, its potential and regulatory challenges in southern Africa.
