Group picture Workshop on "implementing LDN in Africa"

The workshop “Implementing Land Degradation Neutrality in Africa: Means, legal instruments and institutional challenges?“ was held at Windsor Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya on 14 and 15 August 2018. The workshop was jointly organised by the German Environment Agency (UBA) on behalf of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the Konrad-Adenauer Stiftung Programme for Climate Policy and Energy Security for Sub-Saharan Africa (KAS) and University of Nairobi.

The objective of the workshop was to enable an effective implementation of policies on land degradation and soil protection, in particular in Africa. To this end, it was discussed how an enabling environment for the implementation of sustainable land use practices could be established, with respect to legislation as well as, institutional and organizational necessities. It was further assessed how international cooperation can support the creation of such an enabling environment. All over, the workshop was intended to foster the implementation of the “Land Degradation Neutrality” objective in Africa. 50 experts, both from Africa and abroad, including representatives of relevant international organizations, were brought together. Both African and international experts on soil governance were represented.
