Parlamentsauflösung in der Republik Moldau

Präsidentin Sandu setzt Neuwahl durch

In der Republik Moldau hat Präsidentin Maia Sandu das Parlament aufgelöst und damit den Weg für eine vorgezogene Neuwahl endgültig frei gemacht. Unmittelbar zuvor hatte das Verfassungsgericht einen mit den Stimmen der Partei der Sozialisten und der Shor-Partei zur Verzögerung der Neuwahlen verhängten Notstand für verfassungswidrig erklärt. Damit konnte sich Sandu in einer langen Auseinandersetzung um Neuwahlen schließlich durchsetzen, nachdem ihre Wahl zur Staatspräsidentin im November auch ein Votum für eine grundlegende Veränderung der politischen Verhältnisse dargestellt hatte. Die Parlamentswahl soll am 11.7. stattfinden.

100 Tage Biden und Perspektiven für eine Konfliktlösung im Jemen

Ein Ende des Krieges im Jemen – das ist die klare Forderung des neuen US-Präsidenten Joe Biden. Dies markiert eine Wende in der amerikanischen Außenpolitik, die mit einem neuen Kurs auch gegenüber Saudi-Arabien und dem saudisch-iranischen Verhältnis einhergeht. Durch die proaktive Initiative der neuen US-Regierung ergeben sich zum ersten Mal seit langer Zeit Perspektiven für eine Konflikt- und Kriegsbeilegung im Jemen. Viele zentrale Fragen bleiben jedoch noch ungeklärt.

Ein gutes Jahr vor den nächsten Wahlen in den Philippinen sieht die Opposition gegen Staats-präsident Duterte nur in einem gemeinsamen Kandidaten eine Chance, die Fortsetzung seiner Politik unter einem ihm genehmen Nachfolger zu verhindern. In einer überraschenden Initiative haben sich national bekannte Führungspersönlichkeiten zusammengeschlossen, um in den kommenden Monaten eine gemeinsame Front zu bilden. Die Reaktionen darauf sind gemischt, viele Fragen bleiben offen.

Biden‘s Libya Policy

US government relies on diplomacy and multilateralism in Libya

Ten years after the start of upheavals in Libya, recent developments provide hope for a stabilization of the situation. Since October 2020, the guns have been silent in the civil war-torn North African country. And since February 2021, for the first time in almost seven years, the country has been ruled by an interim “Government of National Unity“, GNU. In the first hundred days of the Biden administration, a change of course in US foreign policy towards Libya has become visible. While the previous US government pursued a very passive and sometimes questionable Libya policy, the Biden Administration relies on the power of diplomacy and the cooperation with traditional partners like Germany. The promising multilateral approach seems to be back.

Wo steht die Region ein Jahr nach Ausbruch der Pandemie?

Seit das Coronavirus sich im März 2020 erstmals in Lateinamerika ausbreitete, hat sich die Region zum weltweiten Hotspot der globalen Pandemie entwickelt. Keine andere Weltregion hatte derart dramatische Infektionsraten und tödliche Verläufe der Covid-19 Epidemie zu beklagen. Trotz monatelanger Lockdowns in vielen Staaten ringt die Region weiterhin mit dem Virus. Die Inzidenzen und Todesraten erreichten im Frühjahr 2021 abermals traurige Rekordwerte.

100 Days of Biden administration in Iraq

In the first 100 days of President Biden's tenure, attacks by pro-Iranian militias on US-targets in Iraq haveincreased. Even if the newly elected president wants to avoid for Iraq to become the battlefield of a USIranianconfrontation and while seeking dialogue with Tehran, Biden must show the Iranian regime and itsmilitias their limits. The future of Iraq and with it the stability of the region depends heavily on the USpolicy towards Iran.

Neue Hoffnung oder erneute Enttäuschung?

Die Palästinensischen Gebiete und die Biden-Administration

Die Wahl des neuen US-Präsidenten im November 2020 wurde in den Palästinensischen Gebieten aufmerksam verfolgt. Nach vier Jahren Trump-Administration mit aus palästinensischer Sicht katastrophalen Entwicklungen schienen die Wahlen auch eine Abstimmung über die Zukunft der Palästinenser zu sein. Die Wahl von Joe Biden war sodann mit Erleichterung, aber auch Hoffnungen verbunden. Die ersten 100 Tage scheinen diese Hoffnungen zu beflügeln, entscheidend werden jedoch die nächsten 100 Tage werden.
