Was auf internationaler und europäischer Ebene intensiv diskutiert wird; was vor allem in Deutschland mit viel Emotionen verbunden ist, lässt die Mehrheit der Griechen bisher kalt: der Klimawandel. Über Diesel-Fahrverbote, die Erreichbarkeit des Zwei-Grad-Ziels bei der Erderwärmung oder die Rolle von erneuerbaren Energien liest man hier wenig. Zwar sprechen sich laut jüngsten Eurobarometerumfragen deutliche Dreiviertel für eine stärkere Rolle der EU beim Klimawandel aus; die eigenen Verhaltensweisen zu ändern ist aber viel schwieriger: Zweidrittel denken, man müsste selbst eigentlich mehr tun. Und auch wenn Griechenland im internationalen Vergleich nicht schlecht dasteht: in der Realität hat umweltbewusstes Handelns noch kaum Fuß gefasst. Erneuerbare Energiegewinnung wird zwar befürwortet, aber von einer effektiven Nutzung bleibt das Land noch weit entfernt. Es ist höchste Zeit, dass sich das ändert.

In Deutschland herrscht bezüglich Frankreich vielfach das Bild der „gelebten Gleichberechtigung“ zwischen Frauen und Männern vor. Die Annahme, dass Frauen im Berufsleben weniger benachteiligt zu sein scheinen, basiert zu einem nicht unerheblichen Teil auf dem französischen Betreuungssystem für Kinder, das sich auf ein enges Netz aus Kinderhort, Tagesmüttern und Vorschule stützt.

As the Indo-Pacific becomes an accepted, if not universally agreed upon, way of thinking about the changing geopolitics in the East, there is a growing need for a larger European and German role in Asia and its waters. Amidst the rise of China, the new assertiveness of Russia, and the increasing uncertainty surrounding the traditional American alliances, Europe and Germany must necessarily pick up a greater share of the burden of maintaining a rules-based order in Eurasia and the Indo-Pacific, as well as secure their own interests. Europe and Germany certainly cannot be a substitute to the extraordinary weight that the US has brought to the East over the last century. Nor can they act unilaterally. But Europe and Germany can help shape the regional order in partnership with countries like Australia, India, and Japan.

Macky Sall bleibt Präsident

Opposition erkennt Wahlergebnis nicht an

Am 28. Februar 2019 wurde das vorläufige Ergebnis der Präsidentschaftswahl vom 24. Februar durch die Wahlkommission Senegals veröffentlicht. Demnach wurde Staatspräsident Macky Sall im ersten Wahlgang mit 58 Prozent der Stimmen im Amt bestätigt und kann bis 2024 an der Spitze des westafrikanischen Landes bleiben. Der frühere Premierminister Idrissa Seck gelangte mit seiner Koalition „Idy 2019“ und 20 Prozent der abgegebenen Stimmen auf Platz Zwei, gefolgt von Ousmane Sonko mit 15,7 Prozent. Seck und Sonko sowie die zwei weiteren Kandidaten, Issa Sall und Madické Niang, machten in einer gemeinsamen Erklärung deutlich, dass sie das Wahlergebnis nicht anerkennen. Dieses wurde ihrer Meinung nach durch eine tendenziöse und parteiische Berichterstattung senegalesischer und internationaler Medien sowie durch die verfrühte Verkündigung eines Sieges Macky Salls durch den Premierminister Mohamed Ben Abdallah Dionne, der gleichzeitig auch als Wahlkampfleiter der Präsidentenkoalition BBY agierte, beeinflusst. Das Verfassungsgericht Senegals dürfte das Ergebnis in den kommenden Tagen bestätigen.

The article outlines the relations from the early 50´s and 60´s until the contemporary relations between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Kingdom of Cambodia. It can be seen that during this period, there had been ups and downs but also an ongoing political, economic and cultural deepening and broadening process from the 90´s onwards.

Republik Moldau: neues Parlament nach umstrittener Wahl

Am 24. Februar fand in der Republik Moldau die turnusmäßige Wahl für ein neues Parlament statt. Erwartungsgemäß erhielt die pro-russische Partei der Sozialisten mit gut 31 Prozent die höchste Anzahl von Stimmen und wird voraussichtlich über 35 Abgeordnete verfügen.
