Zwischen Reform und Repression - Wohin steuert Simbabwe?

Die politische und wirtschaftliche Lage in Simbabwe bleibt auch im anbrechenden zweiten Jahr nach dem Sturz von Langzeitherrscher Mugabe weiter volatil. Nach Ausschreitungen zu Beginn des Jahres, welche durch eine drastische Erhöhung der Treibstoffpreise ausgelöst worden waren, geht die Regierung mit aller Härte gegen Oppositionelle und Mitglieder der Zivilgesellschaft vor. Nichtregierungsorganisationen sind verunsichert. Es scheint nicht klar, wer die politischen Richtungsentscheidungen trifft. Gleichzeitig versucht die Regierung, ihre Reformagenda voranzutreiben. Das Land steht – einmal mehr – am Scheideweg.

The globalising age accompanied by the challenge of multiculturalism is an age of crisis of identity which is posing the challenge of accepting global diversity, it also raises critical questions concerning what is primary identity and what is the link between religious, national and regional identity. Increasing incidences of xenophobia, ethnoreligious exclusivism, conflicts and wars pose a tremendous challenge for building of a new multicultural world. This development is placing constraints on basic human freedoms which can be subjected to abuse for non-peaceful purposes.

Education for Leadership Development in Democratic Society

The book emphasises on the cultural and educational development of Thai society through a special training of prospective leadership in the bureaucracy, political parties and private sectors. An appropriate civic and political education curriculum should be introduced at both the college or university level and upper high school level. Consequently, teacher training on this purpose should be conducted by allocating some periods of time for political and historical studies.

The report „Public Service Media Under Crossfire by Protest Movements“ of the KAS Media Programme South East Europe is gaining further public attention. After the German daily “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” quoted the analysis on the current demonstrations in Montenegro, Serbia, Croatia and Albania in its report on 19 March, the Head of the Media Programme South East Europe, Hendrik Sittig, was as a guest at the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) on March 21.

Die mit Spannung erwartete Entscheidung der „politischen Versammlung“ der Europäischen Volkspartei (EVP) am 20. März 2019 brachte einen für alle Seiten akzeptablen Kompromiss. Die EVP und Fidesz „anerkennen gemeinsam, dass Fidesz seine Mitgliedschaftsrechte bis zur Fertigstellung des Berichts der Evaluierungskommission suspendiert“.

Terroranschlag in Kaschmir: Der Monat danach

Der Anschlag am 14. Februar 2019, zu dem sich die Terrorgruppe Jaish-e Mohammed (JeM) im Anschluss bekannte, stellte einen der schwerwiegendsten Vorfälle der letzten Jahrzehnte im ständigen Konflikt der benachbarten Nuklearmächte Pakistan und Indien um die Region Kaschmirs dar. Indien sieht die Schuld bei Pakistan und antwortete mit Luftangriffen auf mutmaßliche Trainingscamps der Gruppierung in Balakot, Pakistan. Indien wertete diese als Erfolg, zumal zahlreiche Terroristen getötet worden seien. Pakistan erklärte danach, nur unbewohntes Waldgebiet sei bei den Angriffen getroffen worden. Was genau geschah im indischen Pulwama-Distrikt und inwieweit können die Geschehnisse die anstehenden Parlamentswahlen auf Unionsebene im April beeinflussen?
