Die gewalttätigen Ausschreitungen in Serbien verfolgen wir aufmerksam und mit zunehmender Besorgnis. Wir verurteilen jede Form von Gewalt und rufen zur Deeskalation jeglicher Spannungen auf. Wir rufen alle staatlichen und nicht-staatlichen Akteure zu Gewaltverzicht auf. Das Recht auf friedliche Versammlung und freie Meinungsäußerung muss respektiert werden. Die zuständigen Behörden sind verpflichtet, die Teilnehmenden von Demonstrationen vor Übergriffen und Gewalt zu schützen. Gleichzeitig verfolgen wir auch mit Sorgen eine zunehmende Radikalisierung der Demonstranten, die nicht mit demokratischen Werten vereinbar ist. Die politischen Spannungen in Serbien müssen ohne Gewalt und unter Wahrung der Rechtsstaatlichkeit gelöst werden.

Historic election brings clear paradigm shift

“Capitalism for all!” - With this slogan, Rodrigo Paz achieved a surprise victory in the first round of the presidential elections in Bolivia, which had been ruled by socialists for almost 20 years. He will face off against fellow opposition candidate and economic liberal “Tuto” Quiroga in a runoff election on October 19. The centre-right opposition also won a landslide victory in parliament: the long-standing ruling party MAS will practically no longer be represented there. Meanwhile, former President Evo Morales is manifesting himself as extra-parliamentary resistance, having been significantly more successful with his call for invalid votes than the various left-wing candidates at the polls.

Youth4Ppolicy-Migration Final Call for Applications

The Youth4Policy (Y4P) Fellowship is an initiative of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Uganda and South Sudan aimed at empowering a new generation of Ugandan policy thinkers and researchers. It provides a unique opportunity for young professionals to engage in migration-related policy research, informed dialogue, and evidence-based advocacy. Since 2022, the Y4P Migration Fellowship has specifically focused on Uganda’s migration dynamics, enabling fellows to explore critical issues such as forced displacement, emigration, and refugee protection. This 2025 fellowship marks the final migration-themed intake under this programme. Y4P equips fellows with rigorous policy analysis tools and exposes them to real-world policy processes through interaction with migrants, fieldwork, stakeholder engagement, and academic training. Previous fellows have successfully transitioned into careers in public service, academia, international organizations, and civil society.

Geopolitics of the Transition to Clean Energy and Global Economic Decarbonization

Though it is widely accepted that, based on greenhouse gas emissions, fossil fuels are an environmental nightmare and that they are the main reason behind the planet’s rising temperature and other adverse impacts on climatic conditions, eliminating fossil fuels remains problematic. The main challenge is the integrated nature of fossil fuels with industry and modern lifestyles, especially in industrialised nations. Equally, challenging is the economic and industrial dependence on coal, oil, and gas for energy and revenue by several developing countries. These factors make plans to transition to cleaner sources of energy, as envisioned at the COPs and through NDCs, both costly and difficult to execute.
