Three "NajGLASni" Awards Given for Student Communities

When schools support and encourage "NajGLASni!" (VOICEd) student communities, we have active and motivated students ready to take an active part in the democratic process and to be the bearers of changes in the education system, but also in the society. This could be concluded from the three-day event for awarding the prize for high school participation - "NajGLASni!", which took place from 29 to 31 March in Skopje and Veles, organized by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, LEAD Association and the Union of High School Students of North Macedonia.

The event was attended by representatives of 7 schools as finalists, consisting of 3 students and one teacher, who were selected by open call. Within the activities, students visited the Assembly of the RNM, where they had the opportunity to discuss and exchange experiences with the young MPs within the Club on Youth Affairs and Policies, and to get acquainted with the function of this institution.

"The Club on Youth Affairs and Policies is a partner of the youth. With this kind of events, we want to send a message that young people are supported in the process of creating and making decisions," said Monika Zajkova, MP and President of the Club on Youth Affairs. For the remaining two days, the students worked out their action plans for the implementation of school initiatives, which were then presented to a three-member expert jury.

Based on previously defined criteria and the potential of school initiatives, the commission selects 3 schools as winners, which received 10,000 MKD each for the implementation of their initiative in their schools. SUGSG "Orce Nikolov" - Skopje, SOU "Kosta Susinov" - Radovish and OSU "St. Kliment Ohridski" - Ohrid received recognition for "najGLASni"[1] student communities in the school year 2021/2022.

The organizers were satisfied with the interest to participate in the event, which was held for the first time, and will continue to reward the best school communities in the future.

"The Konrad Adenauer Foundation values the work of school communities and believes that they are a place where students can engage in and discuss social issues. A democratic society lives from the debate, but it must also be open to compromises, to hear the arguments of the opponent and to accept them. The democratic debate should always aim to bring the best solution for all. That is why we were very glad for the opportunity to visit the Assembly and talk to the young MPs in order to convey to the prospective future politicians the necessary aspects of a democratic culture. In that direction, we will continue our cooperation with the school communities", said Daniel Braun, official representative of the KAS Office for North Macedonia.

"Through the award for high school participation we want to give our incentive and contribution to high school participation in our country, but also to recognize, reward and support positive examples in the activities of high school students," said Ivan Jovanov, Executive Director of LEAD.

The “najGLASni!” Award for High School Participation is presented by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the association Leaders for Education, Activism and Development, and the RN Macedonia’s Union of High School Students. The award is a recognition of the activity and work of the high school communities in order to improve the position of students in their schools and their involvement in school processes.
