Die USA ziehen sich aus ihrer Führungsrolle in der Welt zurück, so bezeichnen es Ivo H. Daalder und James M. Lindsay in ihrem neuen Buch "The Empty Throne: America’s Abdication of Global Leadership". Die drei Säulen der Nachkriegsordnung, die die US-Außenpolitik maßgeblich mitbestimmte - starke Allianzen, offene Märkte sowie eine Verpflichtung zur Verteidigung von Demokratie und Menschenrechten - stehen mit dem neuen US-Präsidenten, gemäß der Buchautoren, unter Druck. Sie argumentieren, dass die "America First"-Politik von Donald Trump die USA zunehmend isoliere. Die Ausstiege aus dem Pariser Klimaabkommen, dem Iran-Abkommen (JCPOA) oder der Transpazifischen Partnerschaft (TPP) sowie die Erhöhung von Zöllen gegenüber Verbündeten und Rivalen gleichermaßen verstärken paradoxerweise in Wirtschaft und Zivilgesellschaft den Wunsch nach Kooperationen zwischen den transatlantischen Partnern. Der Rückzug der USA führe somit zu einem stärkeren Einsatz anderer Nationen für die Weiterentwicklung der internationalen Weltordnung, zum Beispiel durch Deutschland.

The World after Corona: Webinar for scholarship holders in Berlin

Chinese and Indian scholarship holders developed recommendations for policy and decision makers
From April 7-16 the Department Asia and the Pacific in Berlin organised a webinar for KAS-scholarship holders from India and China who are currently in Germany, on the topic “The World after Covid-19”. During two online live debates and several written tasks as well as an ongoing online discussion on the implications of the Corona-pandemic for Germany, for their respective countries of origin and the world in general, the participants developed recommendations for policy and decision makers. The outcome are recommendations for Germany, India and China. This will further encourage the participants to build on their created ideas and thoughts and level-up the set of recommendations to discussions on feasible policy frameworks and their implementation. This was the second meeting of the Asian group of scholarship holders in 2020, after a first meeting with the team in Hamburg in January.

European Roundtable | 18. – 20.10.2019
Zum vierten Mal lud die Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung unter der Schirmherrschaft von Dr. Hans-Gert Pöttering, Beauftragter für Europäische Angelegenheiten der Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung und ehemaliger Präsident des Europäischen Parlaments, Politiker(innen) aus zwölf europäischen Ländern zum „European Roundtable“ in Cadenabbia ein. Ziel der Konferenz war es laut Herrn Pöttering vor allem, angesichts der aktuellen unruhigen weltpolitischen Lage, Gemeinsamkeiten für zukünftige „vertrauensbildende Maßnahmen“ für die Europäische Union zu finden.

From February 17th until February 23rd 2019, the Namibian speaker of parliament Peter Katjavivi together with a delegation consisting of members of parliament and administrative staff, visits Germany’s political hub Berlin. In cooperation with the administration of the German Bundestag, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung invited fourteen high-ranked senior officials of the Namibian parliament for a study visit to Berlin.
