17.03.17, Accra / On the occasion of a round-table on the 30st of March, organized by the Institute of Green Growth Solutions (IGGS) and the Konrad Adenauer-Stiftung, around 180 invited guests from various state organizations, civil society groups and NGOs met to discuss the subject “Natural Resource Accounting – Key for Sustainable Natural Resource Management in Ghana” and exchange their experiences and point of views. After an introduction and opening remarks by the event’s chairman Nana Osei-Bonsu, CEO of Private Enterprise Federation (PEF), followed by two presentations of supporting partners, the Vice-President of the Republic of Ghana presented his keynote address. In it, he stressed the need to establish appropriate balance between the exploitation of natural resources for development and economic growth. He emphasized that it was important to extract the country’s resources for the purposes of economic growth and to increase the quality of life citizens. However, such developmental activity must be done with great care to protect the surrounding environment, because it would be counterproductive to mine the resources for huge economic growth at the expense of destroying the nature. The consequences of repairing the caused environmental damage would be more expensive than the resources extracted from the environment.
