Dialogue of young entrepreneurs, associations and research institutes

In January 2013, KAS Athens organised a dialogue programme for representatives of associations of young entrepreneurs in Germany. Ineffective administration procedures, a small industrial sector and weak SMEs – without a doubt, it will be a long way for Greece to overcome the crisis. Additionally, the Greek population has taken a critical stance on private entrepreneurship. But considering the urgently needed diminution of the public administration, it is the private sector which faces the challenge to contribute to the solution of the Greek labour market crisis.

Against this background, seven young entrepreneurs and association representatives from Greece visited Germany for a study programme of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung. They discussed with their German dialogue partners best practices regarding the potentials of corporate development, the promotion of start-ups as well as the effective representation of interests in associations. Their programme started in Stuttgart, where they met representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Stuttgart region, experts on business promotion of the City of Stuttgart as well as Professor Dr. Helmut Wittenzellner of the College of Media in Stuttgart. In Jena, the guests could get some insights into the implementation of start-up and business promotion concepts at the Technology and Innovation Park Jena, the Jenoptik AG and ThürInG, a network which is specialised in technology orientated and knowledge based business concepts and start-ups. In Berlin, the programme concluded with talks at BDI, DIHK and various other economic and entrepreneur organisations as well as at the Ministry of Economy and the German Parliament.

Packed with a lot of new ideas, the guests returned to Greece, hoping to implement some of the new ideas in their country to contribute to a medium-term economic stabilisation of Greece.
