The Role of Democracy in a Social Market Economy - Foundation Office Greece and Cyprus
Discussion
Details
There is an ongoing debate among both economists and political scientists on whether, if any, democracy promotes growth or growth promotes democracy. The tradition of the German Ordoliberalism, which is the intellectual foundation of the concept of the Social Market Economy, has always claimed an interdependency of political and economic institutions. Throughout the discussion we will analyze the theoretical relations between political and economic freedom in general and those between a Social Market Economy and democracy in particular.
Discussants
Professor Dr. Thomas Apolte, Professor for Political Economy at the University of Münster, Germany, and
Dr. Pavlos Gkasis, Lecturer in Economics, South-East European Research Centre (SEERC), Thessalonki.
The presentations and the discussion will be conducted in English.
