8. Editors' Conclave in Kolkata

The Editor's Conclave, held for the eighth time, was organised by the C. R. Irani Foundation and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung took place from December 10 to 11 in Kolkata. Topic of the two-day conference was, is the Press is doing its Job. The keynote speech was given by veteran journalist and book author Dr. Michael Lüders, who after the conference held a seminar of three days at the Statesman Print Journalism School (SPJS) with students.

FSI-KAS SEMINAR ON A RISING CHINA

On 22nd and 23rd November 2016, Forum for Strategic Initiatives (FSI) in partnership with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), organised a national seminar on trends and developments in the China-Indian relationships and what the rise of China entails and our policy options to shape this relationship. Prominent speakers included Ambassador Shyam Saran, former Foreign Secretary, Ambassador Shivshankar Menon and also Professor Emeritus John W. Garver, who specializes in China’s foreign relations.

TERI-KAS Resource Dialogue

Resource security: contextualizing domestic interests in the global trade and investment framework

The inaugural of the conference was graced by distinguished speakers and guests. Shri Jairam Ramesh, Honorable MP of Rajya Sabha discussed the major challenges and opportunities surrounding the resource sector in India. Mr. Ashok Khosla, gave a comprehensive theme presentation on the outcomes of our resource choices and the factors that are critical for sustainable development. Mr. Khosla outlined how energy and resource choices have spiraling effect on the day to day lives of people and the economy.

33. Joint Staff Development Programme

Meeting of the KAS partner network in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh

The annual meeting of the KAS partner network Joint Staff Development programme took place from 10th to 13th of September for the 33rd time. Topic of this year conference, organised by the Statesman Print Journalism School (SPJS) in partnership with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), Kolkata, were “Smart Cities” and “Smart Villages”.

A Decennial Review on issues of peace and conflict during the last ten years

The KAS Liaison Office India, together with the National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS), Bangalore organized the tenth annual conference at the NIAS Campus from 8th to 11th June 2016. Prof. D. Suba Chandran, NIAS, Dr. Christian Wagner, Senior Fellow, German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP), Berlin, Prof. Rajaram Nagappa, NIAS, Dr. Baldev Raj, NIAS and other prominent intellects had discussions on the issues of achieving peace and avoiding conflict during the last ten years, and also forecast the next decade.

Dialogue and conference programme within the framework of ADB-Annual Meeting in Frankfurt

An Indian Delegation of policymakers and experts was in Germany within the framework of the Annual meeting of Asian Development Bank organized by Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation India. Among these were Dr Anirban Ganguly, Director of Syama Prasad Mookerjee Research Foundation, and M. M. Pallam Raju, former Union Minister for Human Resources Development in the Indian Government of the UPA, who got an opportunity to meet Dr Angela Merkel, the Chancellor of Federal Republic of Germany, Federal Minister Dr Gerd Müller and the Parliamentary State Secretary Hans-Joachim Fuchtel.

Dialogue and conference programme with Peter Stein, Member of German Parliament and German technocrats

The KAS India Office together with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII),Delhi and Centre for Rural Entrepreneurship and Technical Education (CREATE), Lucknow organised interactions in New Delhi and Lucknow from 14.-22. April 2016 on the topic "Water Cleaning and Water development". Peter Stein, Member of German Parliament, Oliver Schwarz, INROS LACKNER, and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Uwe Freiherr von Lukas, Fraunhofer Institut IGD, had discussions with various stakeholders including policy makers, bureaucrats and technological experts to explore the possibilities of Indo-German cooperation.

Waste Management in India

Dialogue and Conference Programme with Christian Hirte, Member of the German Parliament

Between April 19th and 24th, 2016, Christian Hirte, Member of German Parliament, visited India for a political dialogue and conference programme on waste management. As a part of dialogue he met Anurag Thakur, Member of Indian Parliament, Nalin Kohli, National Spokespersons of the Bharatiya Janata Party and an Advocate at the Supreme Court of India, Jairam Ramesh, Member of Indian Parliament (INC) und Former Minister of Environment and Forests, as well as Bhupender Yadav, Member of Indian Parliament and National General Secretary of the BJP.
