Details

Southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean have rapidly emerged as areas of heightened geopolitical focus. This affects the stability across the Indo-Pacific region. Furthermore, China’s economic and political rise is interpreted as a security challenge and a threat to regional order by many states in the region. The ASEAN-centric regional security architecture by itself appears unable to address these challenges. In the scope of its “Act East” policy India and ASEAN have established a Dialogue Partnership. The cooperation between India and ASEAN covers diverse areas and India has also established rapidly growing bilateral ties with ASEAN member states. In order to tackle security challenges jointly in the future, a framework for extended cooperation in the region has to be established.  Therefore, between the 2nd and 3rd December 2019 the Delhi Policy Group and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s India Office will host the DPG-KAS Conference on “Developing Regional Frameworks to Address the Challenges to Security in the Indian Ocean”. The participants of the conference will enjoy the opportunity to engage in discussion with experts and scholars from Germany, India and ASEAN and to learn more about their perspectives and assessments on a range of topics related to key geopolitical and geo-economic developments in Southeast Asia and Indian Ocean region.
