Southeastern Enlargement of the EU

Simulation-Workshop at the Hebrew University

The subject of enlargement of the European Union is a difficult and, in times of austerity, also a very controversial one. Furthermore, enlargements so far have been conducted according to different rules and procedures at different times.

Are the twain drifting apart?

A European-Jewish perspective on Israel today

Is there a growing alienation between European and Israeli Jews? Does Israel’s economic future lie in Asia rather than in Europe? How does the immigration of Muslims to Europe influence its policy towards the Middle East? These questions were, among others, subject of a lively debate that was triggered by two highly stimulating lectures by Dr. Diana Pinto and Professor Dominique Moïsi.

An Appreciated External Perspective: "Young" European Studies Researchers in Israel

On 20 June 2012, young Israeli researchers gathered for the first time at a European Studies Conference at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) in Beer Sheva to present their research projects. In Israel, European studies are getting more and more popular. Because of its uniqueness the European Union is in itself an interesting and, above all, interdisciplinary study object.

A Liberator of German Language

Tuvia Rübner received KAS Literature Award 2012

The Israeli poet and translator Tuvia Rübner has been honored with the Literature Award of the Konrad–Adenauer-Stiftung in Weimar, Germany. His poems, written in Hebrew and German, are considered great works of Hebrew modernity. "He is one of the liberators of our language, because he has continued to write in German in the face of the evil and misery of the 20th Century," said Adolf Muschg in his eulogy for the 88-year-old Israeli. Rübner is the 20th laureate of the Literature Prize that was previously given to Herta Müller and Arno Geiger, among others.

New Impetus for the Bologna Process in Europe and Israel

An Educational Roundtrip

How can Israel learn from the Bologna process in Europe? Which of the instruments can be implemented in Israel and what needs to be considered in order to implement them successfully? These questions were discussed in a joint workshop organized by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) and the Centre for the Study of European Politics and Society (CSEPS) at Ben-Gurion University on May 22, 2012, at the Konrad Adenauer Conference Center in Jerusalem.

The Pen as a Writer's Weapon

KAS-Panel Discussion at the 3rd International Writers Festival in Jerusalem

"When a man's world fills with darkness, he reads a book and sees another world," wrote the Israeli Nobel laureate Shai Agnon. The books we read, talk about our lives, our feelings and our experiences. But does a writer only have a role to sweeten our time with stories? Or do writers have another responsibility, holding up a mirror to society to try to influence social and political events?

„This is not a lost case“

Auch im April diesen Jahres fanden israelische und palästinensische Vertreter aus Privatwirtschaft, Akademie, öffentlicher Verwaltung und verschiedener Nichtregierungsorganisationen zum monatlichen Treffen des Strategic Thinking and Analysis Team (STAT) zusammen, das die Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Israel gemeinsam mit dem Israel/Palestine Center for Research and Information (IPCRI) veranstaltet.
