Am 11. Juni 2014 fand an der Ben-Gurion-Universität (BGU) des Negev in Be’er Scheva die dritte Jahreskonferenz junger israelischer Europaforscher statt. Organisiert wurde diese durch thematisch vielfältige Beiträge geprägte Konferenz vom Zentrum für Europäische Politik und Gesellschaft an der BGU und der KAS Israel.

Forum: Nachhaltige Stadtentwicklung in Haifa

Vorstellung des städtischen Masterplans

Die Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Israel und die Umweltorganisation „Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel“ (SPNI) luden am 26. Mai 2014 die Bürgerinnen und Bürger der Stadt Haifa, Vertreter diverser Umweltorganisationen und zivilgesellschaftlicher Initiativen sowie Repräsentanten der Stadtverwaltung ein, um gemeinsam die Zukunft Haifas als nachhaltige Stadt zu erörtern. Dabei stand der städtische Masterplan im Mittelpunkt der Diskussion – ein Konzept zur Stadtplanung, das verschiedene stadtplanerische Strategien und Handlungsvorschläge aufzeigt.

Aufarbeitung vergangenen Unrechts und innere Aussöhnung

Was kann die Zivilgesellschaft leisten?

Vom 18. bis 19. Mai 2014 veranstalteten das Minerva Zentrum für Menschenrechte und die Juristische Fakultät der Hebräischen Universität Jerusalem in Zusammenarbeit mit der Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Israel ihre 3. Jahreskonferenz zum Thema „Die Rolle der Zivilgesellschaft bei der Aufarbeitung vergangenen Unrechts – Von internationalen Erfahrungen lernen“. Die teilnehmenden Wissenschaftler zeigten sowohl unerkanntes Potential als auch Grenzen der Einflussmöglichkeiten zivilgesellschaftlicher Akteure und Organisationen in diesem Bereich auf.

KAS Israel contributed to this year’s “International Writers Festival” in Jerusalem (May 18-23, 2014) by co-organizing the panel: “Passive Observer of Reality or Active Participant? The writer’s roles and responsibilities in an era of political change” on May 19. A numerous audience of visitors interested in literature as well as in politics had been attracted by the top-class composition of the panel and a positive preview in Ha’aretz.

Truman Research Institute for the Advancement of Peace at Hebrew University and KAS Israel co-organized an expert workshop on “Energy in the EasternMed: Transcending Geography, Time, and Money”. Its purpose was to investigate the implications of recent offshore energy discoveries in the Eastern Mediterranean – discoveries which are widely recognized as a game-changer, in both the global energy arena and in the geopolitics of the Middle East.
