Joint Israeli Palestinian Poll

These are the results of the most recent poll conducted jointly by the Harry S. Truman Research Institute for the Advancement of Peace at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research in Ramallah. This joint survey was conducted with the support of the Ford Foundation Cairo office and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Ramallah and Jerusalem.

Solidarity with Gilad Shalit and his Family

Five years ago, the Israeli Soldier Gilad Shalit, at that time 19 years old, was abducted by militant Palestinian groups. Since then, he has been kept in captivity by Hamas who disregard basic rules of humanity also in this case. They prevent any communication of the victim with his family, and not even the Red Cross is granted access to him. The last sign of life was delivered to Israeli authorities at the end of 2009.

The view on the peace process remains marked by pessimism on both sides. This is also reflected in the views of Israelis and Palestinians regarding a quick solution of the conflict in light of the uprising in Egypt.

Die Meinung zum Friedensprozess ist weiterhin auf beiden Seiten vom Pessimismus geprägt. Dies spiegelt sich auch in den Ansichten der befragten Israelis und Palästinenser bezüglich des Einflusses der Proteste in Ägypten auf den Friedensprozess wieder sowie die Aussicht auf eine zeitnahe Lösung des Konflikts.

Israel ist ein territorial kleines, dichtbesiedeltes Land mit schnell wachsender Bevölkerung und florierender Wirtschaft. Die Herausforderungen des Mittelmeerstaates liegen nicht nur in seiner schwierigen geopolitischen Umgebung sondern auch in akutem Land-, Wasser- und Rohstoffmangel. Durch den Klimawandel sieht sich Israel mit zusätzlichen Herausforderungen und Gefahren konfrontiert und so gewinnt dieses Thema zunehmend an Bedeutung. In diesem Zusammenhang erstellte das Büro der Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Jerusalem ein Arbeitspapier zu Israels Klimapolitik.
