Der Status der muslimischen Minderheiten in nicht-muslimischen Ländern wird in den letzten Jahren immer mehr diskutiert. In den westlichen Ländern, insbesondere in Europa, ist mittlerweile eine große muslimische Gemeinde entstanden, welche zum Teil 5 bis 10 Prozent der jeweiligen Bevölkerung ausmacht.

In einem Leitartikel mit dem aufschlussreichen Titel „Post-UN blues“ spricht die „Jerusalem Post“ von einem rhetorischen „Showdown“ zwischen beiden Politikern – und gibt damit die Empfindungen der meisten Israelis treffend wieder.

„Palestine 194“: Was Israelis und Palästinenser darüber denken

Eine aktuelle israelisch-palästinensische Meinungsumfrage, die mit Unterstützung der Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung erfolgte, kommt zu dem Ergebnis, dass mehr als 80 Prozent der Palästinenser den Antrag auf Anerkennung eines Staates Palästina durch die Vereinten Nationen befürworten. Gleichzeitig meinen rund 70 Prozent der Israelis, ihr Land solle es akzeptieren, wenn die Vereinten Nationen sich zu einer solchen Anerkennung entschlössen.

In Israel wurde die „Arab Spring“-Nahostreise des türkischen Ministerpräsidenten Recep Tayyip Erdogan nach Ägypten, Tunesien und Libyen aufmerksam beobachtet. Am Mittwoch, den 14. September titelte „Haaretz“ auf der ersten Seite: „Erdogan in Kairo: Israels Aggression gefährdet die Zukunft seiner Bürger“, und bei der „Jerusalem Post“ lautete die Schlagzeile ganz ähnlich: „Erdogan in Kairo: Israel untergräbt seine eigene Legitimität“. Es fällt auf, dass die Kommentare in der israelischen Presse gleichwohl spärlich gesät waren.
