Economic Sustainability at the End of Double Digit Growth - Foundation Office Japan / Regional Economic Programme Asia (SOPAS)
Workshop
Details
Since its inception in October 2011, the “Social and Economic Governance Programme Asia” of the German Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (office based in Tokyo) organizes international conferences, workshops and seminars for experts from Asia and Europe. The goal is to establish a stronger dialogue and a continuous exchange of views on current challenges, risks and opportunities of multilateral cooperation between Asia and Europe. Main topics are the economic developments and changes in the Asia-Pacific region both in terms of greater economic integration as well as against the background that long standing strategies of many Asian countries for continuous economic growth have partially changed in recent years and will change even further due to demographic change, urbanization, environmental challenges, a rather sluggish economic growth in major export markets like Europe and the US and technological developments among many other reasons.
In cooperation with universities from Japan, China and South Korea, the two-day event in Shanghai aimed to bring together distinguished professors, selected students and experts from Europe in order to highlight ideas, concepts and possible approaches for further economic sustainability at the end of double digit growth from a “young leaders’” perspective within an East Asian context.
The forum offered a variety of dialogue-driven sessions and workshops on key aspects of relevant socio-economic developments in Europe and Far East Asia. Moreover, the event provided extensive networking opportunities among the 40-50 participants.
