Towards Next Generation Leaders on Security, Disarmament and Non-Proliferation of CBRN

The Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation and The Arab Institute for Security Studies (ACSIS) are pleased to announce the launch of the second cycle of its Next Generation Competition. The competition aims to facilitate the engagement and contribution of youth (with a focus on female young professionals) in the fields of security, arms control and strategic issues. The competition intends to empower a next generation of leaders capable of positively contributing to the security and non-proliferation debate.

Jordan-EU Dialogue on Human Security:Refugees and Forced Migrants in Focus

The Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation and the West Asia-North Africa Institute (WANA) are organising a series of workshops which aim to support young Jordanian experts and professionals from diverse backgrounds to produce public policy papers on different subjects. In the end of the workshop series, the participants are given an opportunity and platform to present their policy papers to Jordanian and international stakeholder, including EU and government representatives and at the same time highlight important issues to them related to refugees and forced migration in the EU and West Asia-North Africa region.

Cartoons in the Arab World

KAS Jordan Office, in cooperation with Wishbox Media and Omar Abdallat, will launch a project to train 5 prospective female cartoonists in Jordan in order to help them create innnovative cartoon work with concrete political, social and cultural messages.

Visit of Leading Journalists from Egypt, Jordan and the Palestinian Territories

From April, 3-10, 2011 six leading journalists from Egypt, Jordan and the Palestinian Territories joined Dr. Martin Beck, Resident Representative of the KAS Amman, in visiting the media cities of Berlin and Hamburg, Germany. There, the journalists had the opportunity to engage with German journalists on a professional level and to discuss a variety of issues with leading representatives of German politics.

The Arab Uprising: Domestic Consequences and International Reactions

On May 19th, KAS Amman in conjunction with the Lebanese Center for Policy Studies held a closed roundtable discussion that brought academics and experts together to discuss “The Arab Uprisings: Domestic Consequences and International Reactions.” Panelists tackled issues including the future of Euro-Mediterranean relations, the potential trajectories of Arab regimes, and the international perceptions of the Arab Spring.

The Uprising in the Arab World What Happened, What’s Next?

On May 6, 2011, KAS Amman and the Institute of Financial Economics of the American University of Beirut organized a joint workshop on "The Uprising in the Arab World - What Happened, What’s Next?”. Leading academics and experts discussed the underlying causes and future challenges of the Arab Spring, described as the most dramatic political mass movement since the 1989 fall of the Berlin Wall. “DEMOCRACY AND ELECTIONS – HISTORY AND TESTIMONIES”

Under the patronage of the Minister of Political Development in Jordan, Engineer Musa Maaytah, KAS launched its joint publication with the Arab Women Media Center on November 4, 2010, in an event in the Sheraton Hotel Amman at the attendance of important cultural, political and media figures. The book contributes to review the history of elections in Jordan, covers the different election regulations and amendments and carefully examines the new 2010 electoral regulations.

Visit of leading representatives of KAS partners in the Kingdom of Jordan

On October 24, 2010, four heads of our partners accompanied by Dr. Martin Beck travelled to a one-week study visit to Hamburg and Berlin, Germany: His Excellency Hasan Abu Nimah (Regional Center for Human Rights), Dr. Khaled Awamleh (Visions Center for Strategic and Development Studies), Mr. Oraib Al-Rantawi (Al-Quds Center for Political Studies), and Mr. Mustafa Nasereddin (Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization). 3rd National Conference on Competition of the Ministry of Industry and Trade

During a welcome speech at the 3rd conference on the competition law in Jordan organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade under the patronage of H.E. the Minister Eng. Amer al-Hadidi, Dr. Martin Beck highlighted that Jordan is among the top countries in the region in terms of modernizing its competition law. This could help to enforce the principles of the free market, to avoid competition imbalances in economic sectors and to protect consumers.
