Towards Next Generation Leaders on Security, Disarmament and Non-Proliferation of CBRN

The Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation and The Arab Institute for Security Studies (ACSIS) are pleased to announce the launch of the second cycle of its Next Generation Competition. The competition aims to facilitate the engagement and contribution of youth (with a focus on female young professionals) in the fields of security, arms control and strategic issues. The competition intends to empower a next generation of leaders capable of positively contributing to the security and non-proliferation debate.

Jordan-EU Dialogue on Human Security:Refugees and Forced Migrants in Focus

The Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation and the West Asia-North Africa Institute (WANA) are organising a series of workshops which aim to support young Jordanian experts and professionals from diverse backgrounds to produce public policy papers on different subjects. In the end of the workshop series, the participants are given an opportunity and platform to present their policy papers to Jordanian and international stakeholder, including EU and government representatives and at the same time highlight important issues to them related to refugees and forced migration in the EU and West Asia-North Africa region.

German-Arab Journalist Academy started

With the aim to strengthen critical and fair journalism, Nasser Judeh, official speaker of the government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, encouraged the participants of the German-Arab Journalist Academy which started on Wednesday 5th September 2007 in Amman. Following an invitation of the Regional Program Near East / Mediterranean of the KAS and the Journalist Academy of the Foundation, 9 grant holders of the Journalist Academy of the Foundation and 9 talented next generation journalists participate in the program on “The Future of Youth in the Near East”. The young journalists will make research and edit together common articles in order to present an own magazine at the end of the academy.

KAS Emphasizes Civic Democratic Discourse

After having published the Arabic version of the conference proceedings „Towards a Civic Democratic Islamic Discourse“,Al-Quds Center for Political Studies – Amman and the Regional Program Near East / Mediterranean of the KAS present the English version. On 380 pages and in seven chapters, the authors concentrate among others on Islam as a political power and the relations between religion and the state.

Kristina Köhler, Mitglied des deutschen Bundestages, und Hatem Ben Salem, Staatssekretär im Außenministerium Tunesiens, präsentierten die französische Übersetzung des Lexikons "Soziale Marktwirtschaft" im Rahmen der Buchpräsentation: Für eine Wirtschaft der Werte in Tunis, Tunesien am 12. Juli 2007. Ziel dieser Übersetzung ist es, die Prozesse zur Ablösung der informellen Entscheidungs- und Handlungsstrukturen durch strategische Ordnungskonzepte zu unterstützen.

Enhancing youth political participation in the upcoming elections was the aim of the 4th South Youth Forum on “Jordan Youth’s Agenda for the 2007 Elections”, organized by KAS and NFYC at the Al-Hussein Youth Camp in Aqaba from May 3rd to 5th as a 3-day interactive workshop.

Der KAS-Vorsitzende Prof. Dr. Bernhard Vogel und der Generaldirektor der Arab League Educational, Scientific und Cultural Organization (ALECSO), Dr. Mongi Bousnina unterzeichneten in Berlin am 19. April 2007 ein Rahmenabkommen, um die Kooperation in den Bereichen „Erziehung und Bildung, Wissenschaft und Kultur“ zu intensivieren. Dieser Schritt stellt einen Meilenstein für die KAS wie auch dessen Regionalprogramm Nahost / Mittelmeer dar, das die Zusammenarbeit koordinieren wird.
