Jordanian Youth Agenda for the 2007 Elections

Results of the 4th South Youth Forum

Enhancing youth political participation in the upcoming elections was the aim of the 4th South Youth Forum on “Jordan Youth’s Agenda for the 2007 Elections”, organized by KAS and NFYC at the Al-Hussein Youth Camp in Aqaba from May 3rd to 5th as a 3-day interactive workshop.

As in the North Forum, 85 female and male University students and active youth participated in defining the ideal candidate in municipalities and parliamentary elections, defining their tasks, and characteristics (e.g. any representative worth their vote should have shown his/her commitment to developing their communities through voluntary engagement!). They democratically voting on priorities for their own Jordan Youth agenda for the 4 Southern governorates. Living in a more traditional society young Jordanians showed that they have innovative ideas for advocacy to be heard as citizens, voters & candidates in the upcoming Municipality & Parliamentary Elections.

The first two of a series of 4 youth forums has created media’s attention to the fact that youth votes will be decisive in the upcoming elections.
