CCJ Launches Journalists' Writing Contest on "Rural Development"

The KAS-partner Club of Cambodian Journalists (CCJ) in collaboration with Lutheran World Federation (LWF) Cambodia launches the "Journalists' Writing Contest" in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The contest, which focuses thematically on rural development, aims to encourage Cambodian journalists to write comprehensive and professional news stories on rural development. LWF Cambodia is sponsoring the contest. Please find the official press release attached.

Journalist Training Course

KAS-partner CCJ and IJF start a five day training course from June 9 to educate 22 Cambodian journalists in techniques and skills of writing and reporting. The training will be held by Ms Margaret Freaney, an experienced journalist from the United States and founding academic director of the Caucasus School of Journalism in Georgia. "Victim and Witness Protection" Police Officer Training

Press Release

The Khmer Institute of Democracy Phnom Penh accommodates the final closing ceremony for Cambodian police officers trained on Victim and Witness Protection on April 8th. The police training has been co-funded by the EU and the KAF. The police officers were trained on VWP laws and practices. The respective press release is available here…

Good Practice Report

The Konrad Adenauer Foundation cooperates with the DED in a pilot project promoting decentralization and administrative reform. The contribution of the DED experts concentrates on the strengthening of planning authorities and on general administration matters. A Good-Practice-Report by the DED’s sector coordinator Ralf Syman, is available in the German language only.

International Parliamentary Cooperation

Prof. Dr. Horst Posdorf, MEP, held a lecture about the role of parliamentarians in foreign politics and international organizations devoted to parliamentary cooperation. Decentralization and Deconcentration Policy and the Representation of Communal Interests In Parliament

To commemorate the international Human Rights Day on December 10 the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation (KAF) Cambodia hosted together with the Senate a seminar on “Human Rights and the Respect of Law at the Local Level - Decentralization and Deconcentration Policy and the Representation of Communal Interests In Parliament. The seminar highlighted the effect of the Cambodian decentralization policy on the rule of law.

The rule of law and the media projects of the KAF regional office Singapore together with the KAF country office Cambodia held an International Conference on “Media Laws – The Media and the Law: A Difficult Relationship” from November 16.-17., 2007 in Siem Reap. Journalists, jurists and media experts from Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, India, the Philippines and Germany took part.

Club of Cambodian Journalists plans to intensify the cooperation between the 17 journalists' associations in Cambodia

On October 18 and 19, 2007 the Club of Cambodian Journalists (CCJ) and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation hosted a workshop on the concepts of journalists’ associations, journalists’ trade unions and press councils. Ms. Frauke Ancker, Secretary General of the Bavarian Journalists Association of Germany, was one of the speakers.
