Dr. Melissa Curley, Director of the UQ Rotary Peace Centre in Queensland, Australia, and Senior Lecturer in International Relations School of Political Science and International Studies University of Queensland, will give a presentation about Cambodia’s future strategic role in promoting R2P in ASEAN R2P in ASEAN. Subsequently there will be a discussion.

The Responsibility to Protect (R2P) is a principle that was adopted by member states of the United Nations in New York in 2005 and since then is anchored on various international laws and conventions. Efforts are continuing in various regions, including Southeast Asia, to promote a better and deeper understanding of the R2P norm. In February 2015, Prime Minister Hun Sen reaffirmed his government’s commitment to the norm and said that Cambodia should take a leading role in promoting it in ASEAN.
