Since the end of the political deadlock the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and the opposing Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) have agreed upon an equal division of parliamentary commissions. Subsequently the Heads of all 10 commissions have been elected and assumed their newly obtained responsibilities.

In accordance with the latest political developments KAS Cambodia organizes an Orientation Seminar for Commission Chairmen from the National Assembly and the Senate as well as selected Members of Parliament (MPs) from the CPP and the CNRP. Subject of discussion will be (1) the roles and responsibilities of MPs in the Parliament and Constituencies, (2) work, organization and functions of parliamentary commissions and (3) the activities of political groups in the Parliament.

The main objective of the Orientation Seminar is to assist participants in taking on their new responsibilities by providing them with a comprehensive overview of the workings and procedures within the Parliament. Through such support KAS intends to increase organizational and procedural competences of those in charge and consequently strengthen institutional capacities in Cambodia.
