LAUNCH: A Report on Sustainable Economic Development in the Kenyan Context.

Baringo Communal Dialogue Forums on the Implementation of Agreed Strategies in the Area of Food Safety

KAS Kenya in partnership with I Serve Kenya and NDMA Baringo Office held communal forums in Baringo County on the implementation of agreed strategies in the area of food safety and enhancing household food security on the 6th and 7th July 2017.


Strengthening the capacity of CSOs on lobbying and advocacy in food security by looking at social accountability tools.

KAS-Kenya office held two seminars aimed at strengthening the capacity of CSOs on lobbying and advocacy in food security by looking at social accountability tools on 25th - 28th April and 4th -7th May, 2017 in West Pokot and Baringo Counties.


Baringo and West Pokot Counties’ training and awareness seminars on legal aspects in respect to improving food security

KAS, Kenya organized two separate workshops in Baringo and West Pokot counties to increase the knowledge of the Non State and State Actors on legal frameworks that seek to assist address the problem of food and nutrition insecurity.


Media training on food safety, early warning systems and management of drought disasters

KAS, Kenya in collaboration with some of its partners held a seminar held on the 30th-31st of March 2017 to assist the local media gain a deeper understanding of their roles in information distribution and agenda setting on issues of food security.


Representation of interests in civil society in the design of raw material extraction – definition of actions

The workshop organized KAS,Kenya in partnership with the Turkana Natural Resources Governance Hub brought together various stakeholders working within Turkana County on environment, natural resources, extractives and governance on 29th-3oth of March.


Strengthening the engagement of young people in political and social processes in the marginalized areas in Kenya

A 2 day youth seminar organized by KAS, Kenya in partnership with Friends of Lake Turkana was held at the Friends of Lake Turkana Resource Centre, Lodwar on the 28th -29th of March 2017 to enhance youth engagement in social and political processes.


Workshop on Community Land Law

KAS Kenya in partnership with Reconcile organized a workshop on community land laws by on 22nd-23rd March which brought together stakeholders in the land sector to deliberate on the land law regime and interrogate the Community Land Act 2016.


Baringo and West Pokot Joint Training Seminar for the Staff and Members of the County Assembly on Food Security

A training seminar organized by KAS Kenya was held on the 16th-17th of March in Eldoret.The seminar's objective was to connect the development of a policy framework for DRM with the legislative arm charged with the responsibility of representation.

Civil Society Engagement for Better Approach Towards Political Decision Makers "Power Mapping"

Food Security- Samburu County

KAS Kenya office held a two day training in Samburu County that brought together members from the media and CSOs that deal in livelihoods, peace promotion and disaster management. The main objective was to strengthen their capacity in developing better approaches (power mapping and analysis) towards political decision makers.

KAS Kenya office held a one day county level and a subsequent two days sub-county level training in West Pokot on how to undertake successful lobbying on areas of food security and disaster risk reduction.

Mentorship Training on Political Action Planning

Youth and Politics

KAS Kenya office held a two days training early February in Naivasha with KAS mentors, Mr. Roland Theis - Secretary General and Vice Minister of Justice and Mr. Gordon Hoffmann - Secretary General of the CDU Party Brandenburg on Political action planning. The two days training focused on two key areas namely: enhancing the participants’ knowledge and skill on county legislative, policy and budget making cycles so as to have in-depth awareness of the processes and where to intervene and political action planning and how they can effectively to push for actions in their constituencies.

Young Politicians Training on Entrepreneurship

On the 26th and 27th September 2019, KAS Kenya held a training on entrepreneurship for the young politicians. The aim of the training was to equip the young politicians with knowledge and skills on how to identify and profitably implement business ideas as alternative solutions to raise finances for their political careers. The training also purposed to improve their entrepreneurship competencies which would enhance their skill set in problem solving, team building among other skills for a successful political career and financial management. This intervention was necessary for the young politicians since they are expected to be future policy makers as well as create opportunities for the young people in their communities. Creative solutions such as business ideas are vital especially in this day and age in Kenya where unemployment is high

KAS & KICTANet Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue on Digital Cooperation

On the 3rd and 4th October, KAS Kenya in partnership with KICTANet held a workshop on 'multi-stakeholder dialogue on digital cooperation'. KAS Kenya Mentorship Sessions

Starting early this year KAS Kenya has been carrying out mentorship sessions in different counties with the aid of KAS partners and mentors. The mentorship sessions targeted young leaders between the age of 18 years to 35 years to enhance their participation in governance issues and service delivery. The sessions purposed on nurturing these young people whose interest is in politics, from a grass root level to the national level.

How Does International Development Assistance Influence the chances of Young People

To understand the effects of international development cooperation on young people’s opportunities, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, Kenya and the Inter Region Economic Network (IREN Kenya) on Monday 26, August 2019 convened a two-day workshop in Nairobi, Kenya. The key focus of the conference was to explore the debate on development assistance taking stock of the last 60 years, as well as discuss experiences of the youth and whether the chances they have obtained in development assistance have helped them in decision-making processes in their countries, New approaches in Development Assistance and Education, Different Approaches to Development Assistance (experiences from China, India, Gulf States) and Development assistance in Kenya today.

Enhancing capacities of women in leadership

In July and August 2019, KAS held training workshops for nominated women MCAs in Kajiado, Mombasa and Kisumu respectively. The training covered selected women MCAs from the following counties; Nairobi, Kiambu, Kajiado, Machakos, Murang’a, Makueni Laikipia, Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Tana-River, Lamu and Taita-Taveta, Kisumu, Vihiga, Homabay, Siaya, Elgeyo Marakwet and Baringo. KAS has been engaging with partners to push for participation of women in leadership and decision making processes. There still continues to be a need for the women in leadership positions with a special target group of nominated women members of county assemblies to be empowered more in order to overcome the challenges they are often faced with and clearly get to understand their roles. This is from the realization that women are still left behind in matters leadership of the Country compared to their male counterparts.

Strengthening the capacities of religious groups on use of media

Starting 24th – 25th July, 2019, KAS conducted a capacity enhancement activity in Nyali, Mombasa, for various religious groups and faith based organizations on the different media platforms that exist and could be used to strengthen inter-religious dialogue. The event purposed to raise awareness on the 21st century powerful social media communication tool and how it can be used to counter religious intolerance and improve the fight against violent extremism at the Coast. The Coast region of Kenya has in past and present times been riddled with lots of cases on violent extremism, sometimes stemming from religious intolerance. There is therefore a continued need to harmonize the different religious groups, to promote peace, harmony and tranquility in the region through reduced extremism.
