On January 8th, 2021 in Brdo pri Kranju, Slovenia, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organised together with the Institute Dr. Janez Evangelist Krek (IJEK) seminar on f "Strategic Communication". Together with communication experts and analysts, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia and Minister of Defence Matej Tonin underlined the importance of constant communication with the public - European values and Christian democracy are the best answers to the current global, political and social crisis.

EU and the Western Balkan (WB6) states – Serbia

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organised together with the Hybride Warfare Research Institute on December 16th, 2020, the last video conference of the series “EU and the Western Balkans (WB6)” this year. In the presence of the Head of the office of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung for Serbia and Montenegro, Dr. Norbert Beckmann-Dierkes, experts and politicians from Serbia and Kosovo discussed the current political events in Serbia, Serbia's European future, foreign policy and the relationship with Kosovo.

Proposal of the New Law on Electronic Media: Advantages and Disadvantages

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organised on December 15th, 2020, an online discussion event on the advantages and disadvantages of the proposal for the new law on electronic media. The media representatives Zdravko Kedžo, PhD, Chairman of the HRT Programming Council, Marc Puškarić, CEO of RTL Croatia and Dražen Ćurić, editor-in-chief of a Croatian news portal, shared their views with Hendrik Sittig, Head of Media Programme SEE of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Sofia, about the proposal of the New law on electronic media and the challenges associated with it. The focus was on the work of electronic publications (internet portals), commercial television and Croatian Radio Television (HRT), considering the position of journalists and the new responsibility of editors for content and reader comments.

Interview about the National Development Strategy of the Republic of Croatia

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organized on December 10th, 2020 an interview with the Minister of Regional Development and EU Funds of the Republic of Croatia, Nataša Tramišaka, and the Head of the Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Croatia, Mladen Puškarić about the newly published National Development Strategy of the Republic of Croatia until 2030. We also talked about how the Government of the Republic of Croatia is preparing for its implementation. We also mentioned the readiness and capacity of local governments to use European budget funds and funds for economic recovery.

Predictions and Opportunities with the Introduction of the Euro

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung is organizing on December 9th, 2020 an online discussion with the Deputy Governor of the Croatian National Bank, Ms. Sandra Švaljek, and the Chief Economist of the Croatian Employers' Association, Ms. Iva Tomić about regarding predictions and opportunities that will open up for Croatia with the introduction of the euro. From the conversation, we learned, among other things, what the introduction of the euro will bring to Croatian companies and exporters and what the loss of monetary sovereignty actually means for Croatia.

8. Congress on Values

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organized together with the Croatian Statehood Foundation (ZHDZ) on December 7th, 2020, the usual annual Congress on Values in politics and society. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, we held this year's Congress on Values in the TV Studio, respecting all prescribed epidemiological measures. We spoke with our guests Prof. Željko Reiner, PhD, Vice President of the Croatian Parliament, Prof. Željko Tanjić, PhD, rector of the Catholic University of Croatia and Janez Cigler Kralj, Slovenian Minister for Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, about Christian democratic values in politics and society during these difficult times caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

In the presence of the Head of the office of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung for Serbia and Montenegro, Dr. Norbert Beckmann-Dierkes, experts and politicians from Kosovo discussed the political events in the country and the trends in relations with neighboring countries, Serbia, Croatia and the European Union.

Security Challanges for Europe

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organised online in cooperation with the Center for Security Cooperation (RACVIAC) and the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies on November 17th, 2020 the 8th Regional Conference on Current Security Policy Challenges in Europe. With the participation of the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr. Robert Klinke, and the Ambassador of the United States of America, Robert Kohorst, Croatian security experts discussed with colleagues from the region the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on international and regional security and stability. During the conference, the COVID-19 pandemic was identified as the biggest security challenge beside climate change, cyber attacks, terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

Croatian migrations : Guest workers and emigration

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung is organizing in cooperation with the Faculty of Croatian Studies of the University of Zagreb and the Catholic University of Croatia from October 19th to 20th, 2020 in Zagreb an International Scientific Conference on "Guest workers and emigration - From reality to Romance". With the participation of the Rector of the Catholic University of Croatia, Prof. Željko Tanjić, PhD, and the Dean of the Faculty of Croatian Studies of the University of Zagreb, Prof. Pavo Barišić, PhD, numerous migration and demography experts from Europe, Australia and Latin America discussed demographic, historical, political, economic, sociological, cultural and other issues of the guest-worker era.

What can Facebook and Google Trends tell us about the Croatian migrations?

Insights into Croatian migrations through approaches of digital demography

On October 15th, 2020, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organized in cooperation with the Catholic University of Croatia within a conference a presentation of the study by Prof. Tado Jurić, PhD on "What can Facebook and Google Trends tell us about the Croatian migrations?". Using approaches of "digital demography" the results of the study were presented in the presence of the Rector of the Catholic University of Croatia, Prof. Željko Tanjić, PhD, and other university representatives as well as demography and migration experts. The main objective of the study was to present a new model for tracking and prediction of migration and a general assessment of the degree of integration of new Croatian emigrants.
