The Importance of European Memory for the European Future: Communist Crimes

Conference

On June 22nd, 2022, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and the Faculty of Croatian Studies of the University of Zagreb organized an international scientific conference in Zagreb on the subject: "The Importance of European Memory for the European Future: Communist Crimes". During the conference, scientists from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Serbia and Slovenia discussed the crimes committed by the former communist regime in the countries of the former Yugoslavia. The aim of this event was to try to locate the mass graves of Croats, but also of all other nations victims of the communist regime in Croatia and other countries of the former Yugoslavia, and to try to reconstruct the chain of command that led to these crimes.

"Political Academy" of the ZHDZ: Final Evaluation

Summer School

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organized with the Croatian Statehood Foundation (ZHDZ) from June 13th to 16th, 2022 on the Island of Vis the "final evaluation" for the 15th generation of the ZHDZ's junior political education program. This weekend seminar always takes place at the end of the second semester of the one-year training course, offers lectures by political stakeholders and serves above all for the evaluation of the training success achieved.

Seminar, Modul 2, 5th Generation

Together with the Croatian Statehood Foundation (ZHDZ), the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organized from june 3rd to 6th, 2022 on the island of Brač another seminar of the series "Women in Politics" for young female politicians of the HDZ. During the three-day seminar, the participants, among othes, discussed with communication experts and university representatives the importance of political communication, the basics of political action, the importance of media competence and the public appearance of politicians.

Food Supply and IT Resilience

Discussion

Together with the Croatian Pan-European Union (HPEU), the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organized a discussion on May 19th, 2022 in Zagreb on "Food supply and IT resilience". With Prof. Ferdo Bašić, PhD., from the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Zagreb and Prof. Marko Tadić, PhD., from the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Zagreb, we discussed the main challenges of the current global food security, Croatia's experience with the Homeland War in the 1990s, expected global geopolitical processes, perspectives of food security, sustainable food production and the importance of IT and Cyber security in the future.

International Importance of the War in Ukraine

Discussion

Together with the Croatian Paneuropean Union (HPEU), the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organized a discussion on May 19th, 2022 in Zagreb on "International Importance of the War in Ukraine". With political analyst Branimir Vidmarović from the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Pula and Vice-President of the Youth of the Croatian Paneuropean Union Bruno Rukavina, we discussed the nature of the war in Ukraine, the position of the US, Great Britain and the EU on the war in Ukraine, the consequences of the war for the energy supply of European countries, grain supply, the position of the current Ukrainian leadership and President Zelenskyy, the role of the West in the defense of Ukraine, the causes of the conflict, the effects of sanctions against Russia and the effects of the war on Croatia.

KARIJEROlink: Vocational counseling the dual education model

Workshop

Together with the Stiftung Wissen am Werk, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organized the initial workshop of the program "KARIJEROlink" on May 18th, 2022 in Zagreb.

The Importance of Central Europe for the EU

The KAS office for Croatia and Slovenia and the KAS Office Multilateral Dialogue in Vienna organized the second event on "The Importance of Central Europe for the EU" in Bled, Slovenia, from May 6th to 8st, 2022. With the participation of the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Slovenia and the Chairman of the Party „New Slovenia“ (NSi), Matej Tonin, and the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Slovenia, Adrian Pollmann, participants from Croatia, Austria, Hungary, Poland and Czech Republic discussed the best examples and failures of cross-border cooperation, the basics of international law, the independence of the judiciary and the importance of values in crisis situations.

The activities of foreign foundations in Croatia

Together with the University of Zadar, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organized in Zadar on April 27th, 2022, a conference on: "The activities of foreign foundations in Croatia". In the presence of the Vice-Rector of the University of Zadar, Prof. Zvjezdan Penezić Ph.D., Pfof. Jure Zovko Ph. D., and a large number of students, the Head of the KAS Office for Croatia and Slovenia gave a lecture on the activities of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Croatia.

Strategic development in public administration

Conference

From April 21st to 22nd, 2022, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and the Croatian County Association organized a conference on "Strategic development in public administration" in Sv. Martin na Muri. During the two-day conference, we discussed with numerous representatives of counties and ministries the promotion of multi-level cooperation and dialogue on topical issues important for local and regional self-government.

Circular economy - A challenge of our time

Radio Show

Together with the Web portal ZGRADOnačelnik.hr, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organized on April 14th, 2022 a radio show about the current condition of buildings in Croatia with particular reference to the aftermath of the earthquake and ways to renovate buildings in terms of energy efficiency. We discussed with the Director of the Energy Department at the Ministry of the Economy and Sustainable Development, Kristina Čelić, about the challenges of the energy transition in Croatia and its effects on the Croatian economy.
