Current and future development trends of the Republic of Croatia

Together with the Croatian Statehood Foundation (ZHDZ) and the Youth of the Croatian Democratic Union (MHDZ), the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organized a discussion on September 11th, 2021 in Zagreb on “Current and future development trends of the Republic of Croatia”. In two panel discussions and with the participation of the Croatian Minister of Labor, Josip Alardoviæ, the Croatian Minister of Education, Prof. Dr. Radovan Fuchs, and Chairman of the European Foundation for Education and former Mayor of the City of Stuttgart, Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Schuster, the trends in the Croatian labor market and education system, the climate and energy goals and the most important elements of the digital transformation were discussed with Croatian experts and company representatives.

"Grand Strategy, Foresight and Hybrid Threats in 21st Century – Making Society and Critical Infrastructure Resilient"

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organized in cooperation with the Hybride Warfare Research Institute from September 3rd to 4th, 2021 in Zagreb and under strict hygiene standards a conference about the hybrid security challenges and risks in 21st century. With the participation of Elmar Brok, former member of the European Parliament and chairman of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs, NATO representatives, other numerous Croatian politicians, including the state secretary of the Croatian Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, defense and security experts from various universities of Southeast Europe, the debate was about strategic foresight's and hybrid threats, strengthening democracy, protecting freedom and society, with particular reference to the resistance of critical infrastructure.

Political Academy

In the presence of HDZ general secretary, Krunoslav Katačić, MEP Karlo Ressler, the supervisor for Southeast Europe and the Western Balkans in the Europe, North America and Multilateral Dialog Department of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, Dr. Johannes Gold as well as other representatives of the party leadership and the Croatian Statehood Foundation (ZHDZ), certificates were handover to graduates of the 13th generation of the Political Academy for their successful participation in this year's political program for the education of young politicians on September 4th, 2021 in Zagreb. This event represents the beginning, or to be precise, the first seminar of the 15th generation of the ZHDZ Political Academy.

Political Academy PLUS

Together with the Croatian Statehood Foundation (ZHDZ), the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organized from 27 to 30 August 2021 in Dubrovnik a workshop of the Political Academy PLUS. In the presence of numerous professors from various Croatian universities, the participants discussed current international relations, current political processes (globalization, transformation, democratization), forms of electoral systems and the importance of political communication.

Alumni Meeting of the Political Academy PLUS

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organized together with the Croatian Statehood Foundation (ZHDZ) on the island of Čiovo an Alumni meeting for the participants of the Political Academy PLUS from July 2nd to 4th, 2021. In the presence of MEP Karlo Ressler, the member of the Croatian parliament, Nikola Mažar, the former member of the Croatian parliament, Sanja Putica, other HDZ members and representatives of Croatian universities, the participants discussed in numerous panel discussions the new political movements and their influence on the political landscape of Croatia, the Christian democracy of today and its response to the increasing left and right populism, the political generation change and the importance of political communication and the dangers of media manipulation.

Building a fundraising culture in Croatia

On June 10th, 2021, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and the Croatian County Association organized a hybrid conference on "Building a fundraising culture in Croatia" as part of the "Yellow Dot" project. The conference aims to help build a successful fundraising culture in Croatia, to improve the level of knowledge about fundraising in society, to promote the exchange of experiences on good fundraising practices and to establish a fundraising profession as one of the key functions in any non-profit organization.

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organized together with the Hybride Warfare Research Institute on May 21st, 2021. another online conference of the series "EU and the Western Balkans (WB6)". With our experts Stribor Kikerec from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Croatia and Iztok Mirošič from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, we discussed the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Forgiveness and Reconciliation from the Perspective of Croatian War Veterans

In cooperation with the Faculty of Croatian Studies of the University of Zagreb and the Croatian Catholic University, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organized on May 19th, 2020 in Zagreb a presentation of the research study on "Quality of Interpersonal and Interethnic Relationships". Together with the State Secretary at the Ministry of Croatian Veterans, Špiro Janović, PhD, clinical psychologist Lovorka Brajković, PhD, former Assistant Minister of Reconstruction and demography expert Stjepan Šterc, PhD and sociologist Prof. Ivan Balabanić, PhD, we talked about the needs and attitudes of Croatian veterans towards forgiveness and reconciliation between Croats and the Serbian national minority in the Republic of Croatia.

Forgiveness and reconciliation as the foundation of coexistence In cooperation with the Franciscan Institute for the Culture of Peace, the Faculty of Croatian Studies of the University of Zagreb and the Croatian Catholic University, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organized on Mai 12th, 2020 in Zagreb a presentation and introduction of the research study on "Quality of Interpersonal and Interethnic Relationships", within the scope a a special focus was placed on the coexistence between Croats and the Serbian national minority as well as the need for reconciliation after the war in Croatia. The first phase of the study was carried out in 2000 and the second in 2019. Therefore, the study shows changes that have taken place 20 years later.
