German Politics and Shift in the European Position Towards Recognition of the Republic Croatia

The President of the Robert Schuman Institute and Honorary President of EPP Women, Doris Pack, PhD., visited the “Museum of the Croatian Homeland War” in Karlovac in the background of the Remembrance Day (Victims of the Homeland War) on November 25, 2022. After the museum tour, Dr. Pack took part in the conference on “German Politics and Shift in the European Position Towards Recognition of the Republic Croatia”. During the conference, Dr. Pack discussed with the mayor Karlovac, Damir Mandić and the prefect of Karlovac County, Martina Furdek Hajdin, and witnesses of the war in Croatia, Germany's role in the recognition of Croatia's independence.

10. Regionaltagung

Die Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung veranstaltete in Zusammenarbeit mit dem "Zentrum für Sicherheitskooperation" (RACVIAC) vom 16. bis 17. November 2022 die 10. Regionaltagung zu den aktuellen sicherheitspolitischen Herausforderungen in Südosteuropa mit Fokus auf den Krieg in der Ukraine. Im Beisein des Verteidigungsministers der Republik Kroatien, Mario Banožić und des deutschen Botschafters in der Republik Kroatien, Dr. Christian Hellbach, diskutierten Sicherheitsexperten mit Kollegen aus Europa und der Region über die Dynamik der euroatlantischen Integration, die Entwicklung der Diplomatie und Verteidigung Südosteuropas sowie über die Ursachen und Folgen des Krieges in der Ukraine.

Youth and Politics ZHDZ

2nd Modul

The Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the Croatian Statehood Foundation (ZHDZ) organized another educational event of the series "Youth and Politics" in Rovinj from November 11th to 13th, 2022. The event was attended by numerous representatives of Croatian universities as well as security and communication experts. The selected graduates of the Political Academy PLUS of the ZHDZ conducted a discussed with board members of the HDZ youth organization the basics of modern politics and networking society, a national and international security policy, the importance of political leadership and instruments of effective political communication.

5th Workshop

The Konrad Adenauer Foundation organized in cooperation with the Institut Dr. Janez Evangelist Krek (IJEK) of the Slovenian party "New Slovenia" on November 4th and 5th, 2022 in Postojna, Slovenia the 5th workshop of the series: "Political Analysis and Communication". During the workshop participants discussed with communication experts the models of the election campaigns, the characteristics of the electorate, and how to activate the voters to participate in the elections.

Challenges for the Future of Europe in the Current Situation

International Conference

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Paneuropean Movement and the 30th anniversary of the Croatian Paneuropa Union (HPEU), the Konrad-Adenauer Foundation together with the HPEU organized an international conference on "Challenges of the future of Europe in the current situation" in Zagreb from October 21st to 23rd, 2022. In the presence of the MEP Karlo Ressler, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia Andrej Plenković and Vice-President of the EU Commission and Commissioner for Democracy and Demography Dubravka Šuica welcomed the conference participants and guests. During the conference, the participants discussed the future of Croatia and the EU, as well as the challenges and tasks of the EU.

Hybrid Threats and Resilience of Society, Critical Infrastructure and the State

7th Zagreb Security Forum

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organized in cooperation with the Hybride Warfare Research Institute from October 7th to 8th, 2022 in Zagreb a conference about the hybrid security challenges and risks in the 21st century. With the participation of the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Croatia, Mario Banožić and numerous security experts from various universities from all over Europe, the debate was about the transatlantic Cooperation and new Security Architecture, hybrid Threats, future cooperation with NATO, hybrid threats in the regional context and smart critical Infrastructure protection.

Days of HURIN

Media Conference

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organized together with the Croatian Radio Publisher Association "HURIN" on October 18th and 19th, 2022 in Sveti Martin na Muri a conference on "Role of private and local radio stations" within the Days of the Croatian Radio Publisher Association (HURIN). In the presence of the German journalist and former CEO of Studio Gong GmbH & Co. Studiobetrieb KG and BLW Bayerische Lokalradio-Werbung GmbH, Philipp von Martius, media experts discussed the importance of media competence for listeners and viewers, the effects of the new law on electronic media on the program development and program schemes of the media, the future of radio and the situation in the creative and cultural industries before and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Christian Democratic Ideas in Croatian History

Scientific Conference

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and the Catholic University of Croatia organized a scientific conference on October 14th, 2022 in Zagreb on the subject: “Christian Democratic Ideas in Croatian History”. Together with the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, Gordan Grlić Radman, PhD, the MEP, Karlo Ressler, and the member of the Croatian Parliament, Zdravka Bušić, politicians, representatives of the Croatian academic community and religious community as well as communication experts discussed, among other things, the historical experience with the Christian Democracy in Croatia, the challenges of the Christian Democracy in the future, formation of the modern Croatian state, present challenges of state sovereignty and the path of Croatian of the Croatian identity.

Round table

Together with the Institute for Migration and Ethnic Studies, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organized on October 13th, 2022 a roundtable on "A model for supporting migrant families in the education system: inclusive and supportive policies and pedagogies". We discussed with the State Secretary of the Central State Office for Demography and Youth, Željka josić, Ph.D. MD, representatives of the Ministry of Science and Education, experts from the Central State Office for Croats outside the Republic of Croatia, school principals and parents the systematic perspectives on support for migrants in the Croatian education system, the support of the community, school management and teachers in integrating returnees and the efforts and challenges faced by parents in enrolling their children in school and integrating them into a new society.
