Launch of five White Papers

Sharq for Citizen Development and the Lebanon Program of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung have published five white papers that introduce the challenges and the opportunities of civil society organizations and social enterprises in Lebanon.

The event was the closing ceremony of the five previous discussion rounds that each led to the draft of a research publication. Five white papers were written by five different researchers about the challenges and the opportunities of civil society organizations in Lebanon working in the fields of media censorship, corruption, the promotion of reading, maternal citizenship, and waste management.

The launching was celebrated with a panel existing of Mr. Dany Hadddad, Researcher and contributor to the publications, Mrs. Monika Halkort, assistant Professor at LAU, Reem Maghribi, Project Manager from Sharq and Mr. Peter Rimmele, Resident Representative for the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Lebanon.

In the panel discussion, Mr. Rimmele stressed the importance of collaboration for civil society organizations, provided a vivid example of Germany's civil society and volunteerism in the wake of the 'refugee crisis' and underlined the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung's broad diversified cooperation with various organizations, parties and institutions worldwide. Mr. Dany Haddad introduced his research on the shortcomings of civil society when it comes to collaboration in order to fight corruption. Mrs. Halkor introduced the audience to Data-sharing and took up the point of her previous speakers collaboration, stressing that if you are truly striving for an improvement of the situation as a civil society organization, then you should not hesitate to share the acquired data publicly. Mrs. Maghribi, Project Manager of the Collaboration of cross-confessional societal organizations, guided the final discussion and thanked all participants and researches for their contribution to the very informative white papers that address urgent issues that hinder and block Lebanon’s civil society to effectively have a meaningful and long-lasting impact for the issues at stake.
