KAS Workshop series: The New Electoral Law between Participation and Application

Within its work on the new electoral law and the importance of political participation, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) in cooperation with Leadership for Sustainable Development (LSD) organized two workshops under the auspices of two municipalities in Keserwan area on “The New Electoral law between Participation and Application”.

Lebanese Media and Politics towards the Refugee Crisis

On Wednesday the 20th of March 2018 a working group from Freie Universität Berlin (FU) visited the KAS Lebanon office for a briefing on the situation of refugees in Lebanon. After the briefing the participants of the group had the opportunity for discussions on media policies and political approaches towards the refugee crisis in Lebanon. The working group was led by Prof. Dr. Carola Richter, Professor in International Communication at the Institute for Media and Communication Studies of the Department of Political and Social Sciences at the FU.

Workshop to train women potential candidates on media and political messaging

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) organized together with the Office of the Minister of State for Women's Affairs (OMSWA) a workshop to train women potential candidates either from political parties or independent running for the 2018 elections on media and political messaging to reach their voters and leave an impact on media in Lebanon.

Conflict Resolution Training for the Lebanese Armed Forces

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organized together with Lebanese Association for Mediation and Conciliation (LAMAC) two conflict resolution and mediation trainings (basic and advanced) for 25 officers of various units of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) for ten days under the patronage of the LAF’s Department of Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC – newly established in 2015).

Visiting Federal President reassures German support to Lebanon

During his visit to Lebanon from January 29 to 31, 2018, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has met with his Lebanese counterpart President of the Republic General Michel Aoun, Prime Minister Saad Hariri, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and several other Lebanese leaders and officials.

Visit to His Beatitude Maronite Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros al-Rahi

On Tuesday, January 16, 2018, His Beatitude the Patriarch Cardinal Mar Bechara Boutros al-Rahi and His Excellency the Patriarchal Vicar Archbishop Paul Sayah received at Bkerki the representative of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Lebanon Dr. Malte Gaier, the foundation representative for interreligious dialogue Dr. Otmar Oehring and the program manager for the Lebanon office Mr. Khalil Toubia in a visit to discuss the situation of Christians in the Middle East and in Lebanon.

Workshop for municipal councils of the Nabatiyye region

On the 18th and 19th of December 2017, the Observatory for Public Administration and Good Governance of Saint-Joseph-University Beirut, in cooperation with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, organized a workshop to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of local administrations for municipal council presidents and municipal council members of the Nabatiyye region.

Expert meeting on the new electoral law of Lebanon

On the 11th of December 2017 the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) and the Maison du Futur organized an expert meeting on "The New Electoral Law, Toward What Lebanon?". At the event, the new electoral law was comprehensively discussed in terms of its opportunities, shortcomings, weaknesses and implications under the direction of Dr. Nawaf Kabbarah.

Panel discussion on tax increases

On the 5th of December 2017 the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and the Lebanese German Business Council (LGBC) held a panel discussion on tax increases in Lebanon 2017. The discussion between journalist Adnan al-Hajj and economic expert of the Ministry for Economics and Trade Razi El Hage was moderated by Rita Chamoun of Voix du Liban.

Dialogue between the municipalities of Ersal region

On Sunday, the 26th of November, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, in cooperation with the municipality of Ersal and under the auspices of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), organized a conference to promote the dialogue among the municipalities of the region. The aim of the event which was attended by local actors, municipal councils and INGOs was to address the challenges of the current situation in the region, the cooperation of the municipalities among themselves and with the INGOs and the donors’ community, and to focus on appropriate steps and measures for the future of the region.
