Security Amidst Dissolution

Conference on the security situation in the Middle East

On 25th and 26th of May 2018, KAS and Maison du Futur - in cooperation with the Fares Center for Eastern Mediterranean Studies, the UQAM Center and the Municipality of Bikfaya - organized their annual conference on “Security amidst Dissolution” in Bikfaya. The conference offered a platform to discuss the security situation in the wider Middle Eastern region to various renowned experts from various countries and more than 200 guests.

On the 31st of May, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, the Middle East Institute for Research and Strategic Studies (MEIRSS) & Regional Forum for Consultancy and Studies (RFCS) held a closed roundtable discussion to exchange ideas about the Policy Paper “Lebanon’s stability between international resolutions and regional tensions” by Former Brigadier General Khaled Hamade.

On the 30th of April 2018 at the Saint Joseph University in Beirut a conference was held on the current situation of the Syrian refugees in Lebanon. It was hosted by the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation and the Middle East Institute for Research and Strategic Studies (MEIRSS).

Conference on "The Assessment of the Lebanese Electoral Framework"

On the 26th of April 2018, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, LADE, and Democracy Reporting International held a launching event for a study on the “Assessment of the Lebanese Electoral Framework”. The event featured the presentation of the study’s findings as well as a discussion on the consequences of the new electoral law.

On the 11th of April 2018 the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and Maison du Futur held a conference on “The Challenge of the Youth in Lebanon: From Crisis to Opportunity”. The event featured the presentation and discussion of a policy paper by Jean-Pierre Katrib and Makram Rabbah and was moderated by Nadim Koteich.

KAS Workshop series: The New Electoral Law between Participation and Application

Within its work on the new electoral law and the importance of political participation, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) in cooperation with Leadership for Sustainable Development (LSD) organized two workshops under the auspices of two municipalities in Keserwan area on “The New Electoral law between Participation and Application”.

Lebanese Media and Politics towards the Refugee Crisis

On Wednesday the 20th of March 2018 a working group from Freie Universität Berlin (FU) visited the KAS Lebanon office for a briefing on the situation of refugees in Lebanon. After the briefing the participants of the group had the opportunity for discussions on media policies and political approaches towards the refugee crisis in Lebanon. The working group was led by Prof. Dr. Carola Richter, Professor in International Communication at the Institute for Media and Communication Studies of the Department of Political and Social Sciences at the FU.
