EU and Russia: A new page in our relationship?

On May 5-9 the EDS Council Meeting will take place in Vilnius. During this event Young Leaders will debate on the topic „EU and Russia: A new page in our relationship?“.


The 4th EDS Council Meeting „EU and Russia: A new page in our relationship?“ is the event where young leaders, affiliated with European People’s Party (EPP) and its organizations, are going to discuss and debate full of challenges relations between the European Union and its biggest neighboring country Russia. Young leaders of nearly 40 countries, representing center-right in the European politics, are going to meet EPP MEPs and Ministers of Republic of Lithuania to discuss such topics as the EU’s Eastern Neighborhood policy, the diversification of energy supplies, European integration, cross border cooperation, human rights and higher education. The participants will be introduced with the European Union’s common policies and representatives working on those exact fields.

During the event participants will have unique possibility to be addressed by several top ranked speakers (members of Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats, part of EPP family) such as the current Prime Minister of Lithuania Mr. Andrius Kubilius, Speaker of the Seimas Ms. Irena Degutienė, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania Mr. Audronius Ažubalis, leader of Lithuanian independence movement “Sąjūdis”, former president of Lithuania and current MEP (working at the Committee on Foreign Affairs) Prof. Vytautas Landsbergis as well as other representatives.

Furthermore Ms. Radvilė Morkūnaitė, one of the youngest MEPs ever elected, former chairwoman of Young Conservative League and currently Member of the European Parliament, working at the Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, will share her opinion on one of the most debatable topics regarding the EU-Russian energy relations – Nord Stream project and its implications for the EU member states.
