Media Law Handbook for Southern Africa

Volume 1

For over a decade, KAS Media Africa has been focusing on the regulatory framework for journalists in Africa. Volume 1 of the Media Law Handbook for Southern Africa is an important milestone in this on-going work. It is a practical guide for journalists practising in Botswana, Malawi, South Africa, Swaziland and Zambia. The handbook not only contains a comprehensive overview of applicable media laws for each country reviewed, it also contains suggestions on possible law reforms to improve the protection of media in these countries.

AMI and KAS Media Africa Announce Strategic Partnership

The African Media Initiative (AMI) and the Sub-Sahara Africa Media Programme of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS Media Africa) today announced a strategic partnership, beginning with the hosting of a joint annual media conference on the African continent later this year. Harnessing Africa's digital future

The advent of the digital media also brings the need for change to african media houses. Some traditional media remain with old fashioned approaches. During our Africa Media Leadership Conference 2009 in Ghana named „Learning from the Future: Africa’s Media Map in 2029“ we looked at certain models which are supposed to ease the transformation process. The results of the discussion are collated within 14 essays in this booklet.

Focus on FAME

Focus on FAME is a collection of scientific texts written by 12 members of the Forum for Africa Media Educators (FAME). Therein they discuss the current challenges facing African media educators. FAME is an initiative of the Media Programme and the Witwatersrand University. Gaol: to establish an African network of excellent media institutes and promote the exchange of ideas with German journalism schools. The texts were presented at the World Journalism Educators Conference in July 2010.

A mass event and it’s influence on South Africa

Many South Africans expected that the World Cup 2010 would bring social, health and political improvements to their country. But what influence can such a mass event actually have? AfricanGoals2010, the magazine of the first German-African journalist Academy of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation answers these and other questions.
