Reporter Slam Africa 2025

The most entertaining live format for journalists is coming to Africa again. Our second edition of the Reporter Slam will take place this year in Lagos, Nigeria.

On 22 May, Lagos, Nigeria, will be the stage for Reporter Slam Africa 2025. Six Journalists from Sub-Saharan Africa will compete in a lively showdown, offering the audience a behind-the-scenes glimpse into their work as journalists. The slammers are challenged to present their stories in a unique and creative way. The journalist whose story appeals the most to the public will be named the Slammer of 2025!

Dialogue Programme to Berlin and Brussels for independent Press Councils from Sub-Saharan Africa

KAS Media Africa aims to strengthen African independent press councils by hosting a dialogue program to share experiences and knowledge from Europe.

The Dialogue Program for Independent Press Councils from Sub-Saharan Africa will take place from the 2nd to 6th of June 2025, in Berlin and Brussels. The program will bring together stakeholders from Africa and Europe to discuss the fight against disinformation and fake news. The program will provide a platform to exchange valuable insights and experiences, building on the recent creation of the Pan-African Network of Independent Media Councils in Africa (NIMCA).

Global Media Forum 2025 – “AI Disinformation & Countermeasures in Europe and Africa"

An interactive workshop providing journalists with knowledge of how to engage with AI and disinformation

From the 7th to 8th of July 2025, KAS Media Africa will convene the Global Media Forum 2025 in Bonn, Germany, dealing with the dangers of disinformation and AI. In the format of an interactive workshop, attendees are offered presentations, best practice examples and exercises. They will leave equipped with practical tools, policy insights, and a roadmap for fostering digital resilience in the age of AI disinformation.

KAS Media Africa supports Africa Check Fellowship Programme 2025

A Francophone fellowship programme strengthening fact-checking in Africa in Dakar, Senegal.

From the 7th to 22nd of July 2025, KAS Media Africa will be supporting the sixth Africa Check Fellowship initiative by Africa Check in Dakar, Senegal. The programme will bring together five francophone journalists offering them an in-depth fact-checking training, practical experience and insight into operating a fact-checking organisation.

KAS Media Africa supports the 2025 Africa Media Councils Summit, advancing media and communication regulations for journalism excellence in Africa

From the 14th to 17th of July 2025, KAS Media Africa will be supporting the first Pan-African Media Councils’ Summit 2025 hosted by the Network of Independent Media Councils of Africa (NIMCA) in collaboration with the Media Council of Tanzania (MCT) and East Africa Press Councils (EAPC) in Tanzania. It brings together members of the World Association of Press Councils (WAPC), NIMCA and EAPC to review their past achievements, current challenges and future goals.

KAS Media Africa is proud to present the launch of an innovative journalistic comic book “Currents of Truth”, that blends investigative journalism with dynamic storytelling. Written by Ryan Pedro and illustrated by Careshia Esperanza, this graphic novel follows a young journalist’s quest to expose corruption and fight disinformation in an AI-driven world.

E-lection Bridge 2013 in Windhoek

African elections are often confronted with manageable expectations from a worldwide community that hope for as little bloodletting as possible and mostly democratic elections whose outcome does not endanger the stability of the particular region. The omnipresent reports about buying of votes, clan politics and intimidation among political opponents, bedim the fact that there are nevertheless plenty of ambitiously executed election campaigns which are based on modern means of political communication.

The conference strengthened its place as the most important network meeting in the African media landscape. At this occasion the incumbent head of the KAS Media Africa, Mr. Markus Brauckmann, introduced his successor, Mr. Christian Echle.

Ideas & Innovations on Silicon Island

Welcome to the ANIC/TechCamp in Zanzibar - The Finalists Workshop

A whiff of Silicon Valley drifted over Zanzibar. The participants at the TechCamp had exactly three minutes to convince the listeners of their various start-up ideas. Then the bell rang and the next one got a turn. The point of the exercise, which is more commonly used to woo venture capitalists: to clearly articulate their proposed plan and to inspire the audience. Alluding to the legendary region of IT founders in California, one of the conference participants in Zanzibar joked that, “We’re here right now on Silicon Island.”

The driver slowly maneuvers the bus full of E-lection Bridge Africa participants over the dirt road to the backstage area. On an open-air ground in Tanzania’s capital, Dar es Salaam, the opposition party CHADEMA has called a mass rally. Around 20,000 enthusiastic supporters followed the call. They fill the barren area with life. “People’s – Power!” the crowd chants, CHADEMA’s acoustic trademark.

E-lection Bridge Africa: South by Southwest in Namibia

Cross-border exchange occurred everywhere. Political communication in Africa was the topic of conversations in the seminar room, during the coffee break, even in the shuttle to the conference building. That’s how it happened at the KAS E-lection Bridge Africa: South by Southwest, which took place on April 18-19, 2012 in rural Namibia. The regional event with participants from six African countries was organised and conducted in close cooperation with KAS Namibia under the direction of Country Representative, Holger Haibach.

Prayers, Campaign Songs and Lots of Applause

The E-lection Bridge Africa West in Ghana

A quiet prayer to begin with, in the middle fiery campaign songs and at the end cheerful applause for the speaker: the KAS Media Africa workshop titled, ‘Media Training and Strategy: How to reach the voter’, reflected the colourful diversity of political communication in the West African country of Ghana. The seminar for members of the democratic opposition took place under the umbrella of E-lection Bridge Africa on 6. and 7. February 2012 in Accra, in close cooperation with the local KAS country programme.

AMLF 2011: Annual Highlight to Africa's Top Media Executives

Delegates from 48 countries mades the Continent's most important marketplace a resounding success

The Tunisian Prime Minister was beaming during the introduction of the KAS Media Africa representative. “I know the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung,” exclaimed Beji Caid el Sebsi, a former Ambassador in Bonn, and made the compliment, “You do great work.” In May 2011 the foundation sent Klaus Lötzer as country manager to Tunisia. Now the regional Media Programme Sub-Sahara Africa was there to support the annual African Media Leaders Forum (AMLF) in Tunis. The leading media marketplace on the continent took place November 9-11, 2011 in the “Capital of the Arab Spring,” as a media professional remarked.
