2014 East-West Center International Media Conference

Challenges of a Free Press

More than 300 journalists from Asia, the Pacific and the United States gathered in Yangon in March at the East-West Center’s 4th International Media Conference, which is co-hosted by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Media Programme Asia.

Distinguished keynote speakers and panels of working journalists discussed challenges facing press freedom in their countries and shared strategies they use for news gathering.

The conference was held at the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry. The event also included on-the-ground updates on news and media issues in the region, a wide range of practical skill-building workshops, and unique opportunities to network with hundreds of international media professionals. Special workshop sessions featured training opportunities for journalists from emerging media environments.
