International Press Institute (IPI) World Congress - Media Programme Asia
Event
Details
For almost five decades following the 1962 coup d’état, Myanmar's press was strictly controlled. Tight reins on the media led to lengthy jail sentences for many journalists, and forced numerous others into exile. For decades, exiled media outlets - such as the host partner, Mizzima Media - remained one of the precious few sources of information about developments within Myanmar.
That is one of the reasons why this year's World Congree is taking place in Yangon, Myanmar. The conference will include inspiring conversations, the Town Hall debate, an elections workshop and tours of local media houses, to name a few of the planned activities.
